Vision changes

I asked this on another post about drops and never really got an answer.

My high pressure was picked up at the opticians 8 months ago. My new glasses were fine but once I saw the Opthalmologist a month later and he prescribed drops, my vision seems to have got worse. I have varifocals and now I find both my reading and distance vision is much worse than it was even with my old glasses. Is this normal? Watching anything on the TV is just a blur most of the time and I have to have the text on my phone bigger ☹️

Haa anyone else had this? I don't want to pay for new glasses as they are so expensive.

Sorry to hear that the drops are not helping. Did you go back to your eye consultant to let them knw about your experience with the drops. Mine was discovered late but I should say they have manage to keep my right eye well till now.

My advice go back to them and let them know you might get more tests done and maybe prescribed an alternative

My pressure is fine now. Its my eyesight that is worse.

Ya I do understand you. Same here. Pressure is okay but my good eye cannot read anything without glasses. I need a check soon as I think I might need a new prescription

It's so frustrating. I can't afford to pay out 300€ for a new pair of glasses if my prescription has changed but is it normal for Monoprost to affect eyesight? It's really blurry all the time. If it is normal, I am a but pee'd off that the optician didn't advise me to sort the pressure out first 😡

BTW I don't have any optic nerve damage, jusr high pressure.

I am also on Monopost but it doesn't affect my sight. I have high pressure without nerve damage.

I understand that the cost is always the problem. In the UK where I am I have found where I can get glasses cheaper so I just take my prescription there and end up paying less for them. What ever the problem you eye health is of utmost importance.

We also go to an independent man who only sells glasses which are so much cheaper than all the optician chain stores.

Hello Costadelsol,

Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having.

I see from your previous posts that you have already tried Fixaprost and come off it because of dizziness. While blurred vision is a listed side effect of Monoprost, I don't think it should be so bad for the full 24hrs that you can't see properly.

If I were you I would have a chat with the Optician in the first instance and see what his advice is. If he thinks you've been on the drop long enough for your vision to have settled then if you can wait a bit longer, I would ask your Ophthalmologist to try another drop for you.

Are you still due a fields test in March where you can perhaps raise a change a change of drops? We all react differently to drops and it may be that you simply don't get on with the 'prost' drops. There are others they can try which might suit you better.

I have had many different drops over the years but it was not until last year that a new drop caused a change in my vision. I struggled for 3 months hoping to get used to the drop but the blurriness did not go away. As the drop (Roclanda) is the only one of it's type (rho Kinase Inhibitor) and it has successfully stabilised my rising eye pressures, I opted to change the strength of my glasses but as I only have ready readers, I do not have the expense of having to buy them through an Optician. That was very much a personal choice and and was dictated by my particular circumtances and I accept that we are all different.

Don't suffer longer than you have to and Good Luck.

Best Wishes, Laura

Hi, Had exactly same symptoms and after found I had to get new glasses . Problem solved but will be life long on the drops.

What a pain. Obviously the optician wanted to get the money rather than advise me to wait and see what treatment I needed. What a rip off!

Ask for new lenses to be put in your frames that you already have,,,,,YES they can do this.

Hello, After being prescribed eye drops. I noticed, not so much a decline in eyesight, but a tendency for my eyes to become irritated, that could at feel at times like my eyesight was deteriorating. I stopped watching television and found bright lights generally much more disturbing to my eyesight.

Since being prescribed non preservative eye drops, more recently, I've noticed a significant improvement.

The point I'm making, which I get the impression is something you're wondering: can the eyedrops be a cause contributing (to a sense) that the eyesight is declining. When in fact the irritation is caused by toxins in the preservative used in eyedrops.

Possibly suggest to the ophthalmologist being changed to non preservative eye drops.

I use Monoprost, which I believe is preservative free.

I have a similar problem in that my visual acuity varies from day to day. Not sure why. Anyone else with glaucoma have this problem? I'm not even sure that glaucoma is the culprit.

Yes, mine is worse some days than others.

I wanted to try and get some idea if when the optician advised me to see an Opthalmologist, she should have advised me to wait with regard to my new prescription and go back to her after any treatment had been prescribed. It seems logical but at the time I was blissfully unaware that anything might affect my vision so it would not have occurred to me.

I've been holding off seeing an optician because I don't see how they can prescribe me suitable specs when my vision changes from day to day.

if your vision fluctuates from day to day, hour by hour, it sounds more like dry eye. If you havent tried dry eye drops yet I would recommend you try them. Any time your eyes feel tired or blurry, put a drop in. If you feel the benefits, carry on using them. They hydrate and lubricate the eye and do not affect your glaucoma. They only thing I would recommend not to do is to put them in near to the time you normally put your glaucoma drop in.

I haven't tried them because, if anything, I have the opposite problem. My eyes have always watered for little ir no reason. I have always had to use waterproof Mascara and wear sunglasses even in fairly dull situations.

This can be a sign of dry eye. Ironically eyes water more. It can also be a sign of blocked tear ducts.

Would my Opthalmologist not have said anything?

Not necessarily, but it would be worth asking at your next appointment.

Same thing has happened to me. Had an opticians appointment in January and had new glasses and Glaucoma was picked up. Glasses were fine until I started the drops and noticed my vision was slightly blurred and my eyes sore and red. Changed to preservative free drops which have lessened the soreness and redness but vision is still not what it should be. Went to have a retest at opticians who said my prescription had changed! As my driving licence is due and I am going to have the DVLA field test have had to pay for new glasses which I will collect soon. Am dreading the DVLA test.

It's shocking. The opticians should advise you to wait. My prescription didn't change that much so it wasn't like I was struggling. I just went 2 years after the last test 😡
