Just wanted to ask about your experience with contact lenses after Paul implant (or any alternative drainage device).
How soon were you able to resume wearing your lenses after the surgery? Did you encounter any complications? Did you have had to switch from soft to rigid contact lenses or vice versa?
Thank you!

Hello. Contact lenses can be worn again after a shunt implant, but it may take a few weeks before you are able to do so again. Softer contact lenses are best to ensure that it does not irritate the bleb.
I was interested to read your reply regarding contact lenses being able to be worn after a shunt implant. My consultant doesn’t advise wearing lenses after Preserflo surgery.
Can you please advise if there is evidence to indicate otherwise.
I've checked this with an ophthalmologist who has advised that preserflos are very contact lens friendly. They advised that some surgeons will not recommend them. It sounds like there is a bit of mixed opinion on this. You might also find this page helpful which indicates the same with preserflo - aao.org/eyenet/article/surg....
Thank you Kieran for taking the time to enquire and reply to me. It would seem my consultant is one that doesn’t recommend them as he thinks the eye could deem a contact lense as a foreign being! I darent go against him incase I have to have another Preserflo in my left eye!
I only joined today and have posted a question about my very recent Paul implant, so I was therefore very interested to see your post! Although I am afraid I cannot answer your question regarding contact lenses, it was good to see that someone else has had the same type of implant as me. I believe they are quite new. I used to wear contact lenses (hard lenses) before my cataract surgery in 2010. I was terribly short-sighted (about minus 20!!) and as you can imagine, my specs were SO thick and I would only wear them around the house as I was very self conscious. I had prescription lenses implanted when they did my cataracts and it was so wonderful to be able to see clearly, probably for the first time in my life! To wake up and be able to see the clock!! Mind you, I did go privately, so not sure whether the NHS would have given me the very strong prescription implants or just plain implants to get rid of the cataract then told me to buy a pair of specs!! I hope you get some helpful answers to your question. Kind regards, Gill
