Blood Pressure Tablets vs Glaucoma

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with taking blood pressure tablets after being diagnosed with Glaucoma?

I have moderate glaucoma in my right eye, have had a couple of surgeries (Preserflo) and have recently been diagnosed with slightly high blood pressure. I saw the Physician Associate today at my local GP after undergoing an ECG and BP test yesterday. Both results came back normal. My BP was raised when I did home tests, which I have been tracking for a month or so, but the one in the GP yesterday was normal. Typical!

It has been suggested that I take some very low-level BP tablets to bring down my BP over the next 3 months. She had no concerns about my glaucoma but there seem to be mixed thoughts when you research.

I am wondering if anybody else takes low-level BP tablets and what their advice was.

Thanks

I have taken regular eye drops and blood pressure tablets for many years and have had no issues at all. Hope this helps.

Hi there. You will be fine to take blood pressure medications, but it is always advisable to let your eye specialist know about any new medications that you start taking.

I was taking blood pressure tablets and then read that the British Heart Foundation had done a small study on the benefits of beetroot juice for those with high blood pressure. For those that drank 200ml of beetroot juice a day it was 100% successful in reducing their blood pressure. It worked for me and I’m not on the tablets any more. My GP didn’t know about it, but was going to read up when he saw my results. I told them what I was doing and I monitored my blood pressure daily for a month and then gave him the results. Might be worth a try.

I agree, I have found beetroot powder has lowered my marginally raised B/P ,also celery salt helps. I sprinkle a teaspoon of each on my evening meal. Good to hear that your G.P is open minded to read about it.

Hi Jeffvader.

I have taken blood pressure medication and glaucoma medication for several years with no issues. I was advised to keep my blood pressure controlled as if raised, it can impact glaucoma by damaging the optic nerve.
