Advice please - post cataract surgery

Good morning all. I finally had surgery for my angle closure glaucoma on Friday. They opted to simply do cataract surgery and not GSL plus cataract, as they intended. So I was assuming that all would recover quickly. However whilst my vision was blurry post op I could tell that my field of vision had widened. However, my vision if anything seems to be getting worse and today my vision is pretty much blacked out with only a slither of vision and my eye is painful on and off. I looks fine with no redness. I'm sort of worn out with it all, not least as I have had a pretty traumatic time of it with uncontrolled pressures, plus 3 x severe allergic reactions to drops, living with se of acetazolamide, then cancelled surgeries etc. I'm waiting for a call back from eye casualty, although that's the last place I want to be, but in the meantime I wondered how others have fared with cataract surgery to treat ACG? Thank you

Heelo Efabear. I am glad you acted upon this and contacted the eye casualty. I very much hope you have managed to be seen by a consultant today and they have been able to investigate the problems you are experiencing.

Thank you Trish. I am lucky as my eye casualty is really responsive and thorough. I'm back at glaucoma clinic tomorrow as well

Efabear you have certainly had a time of it and I hope you have heard back from the eye clinic by now.I have had cataract ops on both eyes to help with angle closure glaucoma, the ops were a success in as far as they did open up the angles in my eyed but didn't unfortunately keep the pressures down low enough for my consultant. I only had blurred vision for a couple of hours and then I could see perfectly and no pain at all.

Good luck x

Thanks that's helpful to know. I did get seen and they said fluid was building up behind the cornea, which isn't uncommon post surgery, especially with narrow angles. He described it like a boat with a leak, the quicker you bail water out the quicker the fluid builds again. He increased my steroid drops, but he also reassured me it mostly resolves itself with time. My pressure was on the high side of okay, given this eye has advanced disease and I guess if removing the cataract hadn't made space, the build up of fluid would have pushed the pressure up further so that's a positive. It does worry me that removing the cataract won't be enough, not least as I am desperate for some respite from it all, but what will be, will be I guess. Thanks again it really helps to hear others experiences.

That's good that you were seen and you have been told it's not uncommon . Fingers crossed the increase in steroid drops help . Did they give you any idea of how long it normally takes to resolve itself ?My pressures weren't really high after having my cataracts removed, just too high for me ,they were actually within the normal range . We are all different so what's too high for me could be perfectly fine for you.

Just try and concentrate on your eye healing just now rather than what might happen afterwards ,easier said than done I know.

You have been through the mill with it all and I know what it's like just wanting things to go smoothly for a change .

Take care
