the surgery went very well as far as I know, waiting for a check up. My vision is blurry in that eye, but much better than before the operation.

I'm glad all went well for you ,I've been told the blurry vision can last for quite a few days, how long have you got to wait before you get your other eye done.

Thank you. The consultant won’t do the other eye until it’s really bad, so I may need to think about going private. I will wait for now and monitor how things go. The blurry vision I understand can take several weeks to clear. Not being able to drive for 6 weeks is a pain.

I would check about the driving as I was told by two of the Nurses at the eye Hospital that I could drive again as soon as I could read a number plate at the legal distance there was nothing to stop me driving. I will be driving today.

I will have both mine done because I have narrow angles and high eye pressure, cataract surgery should bring my pressures down quite a bit .I have been on waiting list for 2 months now so I hope not much longer just want to get it over with.

Questions to Nala and others - I'll have my cataract surgery on 7 and 14 August. Just read that you shouldn't cook for a long time after the op. What is your experience?

Also, I want to go on holiday by myself about 4 weeks after the second op. I normally carry 15-20 kgs of luggage (I'm 5'3" and weigh 61 kg.). Is waiting 4 weeks after the second op sufficient or do you think it's too risky?

I wasn’t given any real advice by the hospital, however I have read a lot on Google. Google’s advice is no bending or lifting anything heavy, but no real timescales given. Lots of rest after the operation and eye drops several times a day needed for 4 weeks in my case. The first few days after the op I was able to potter around the house, but my eye is still quite blurry, but definitely showing signs of improvement.

Good luck with your operation 😊

I was told none of those things except the bit about lifting any heavy. As I said to Nala I had mine done last Tuesday and apart from taking it easy on the day of the op I have done most things as normal. I live alone so it was ice to do things a usual eg cooking.

aftercare. Make sure you use the drops given for full time. Don’t lift anything heavy for 4-6 weeks. Be careful not to get water or shampoo in your eyes (they recommended baby shampoo just in case). Wear wrap round glasses outside to prevent wind, glare, particles getting in your eyes. I was not told anything about not cooking and can’t I get what risk that would be.

I had both done within 2 months to reduce eye pressure (they had not affected my vision). I have had no problems recovering. Pressures now 16 down from 24, also taking diamox as have become too sensitive to all drops. Hope this helps several questions on this post.

Hi Nala. I had Catact Surgery last Tuesday. I had been told by lots of people I shouldn’t do this and I shouldn’t do that. Told not to bend, not to even lift the kettle. However it was a different story from the Nurse after Surgery. I was told to go home take it easy the rest of that day, then carry on as normal with care of course. To put it in her words I could make a cup of tea, cook my meals, bend down to do my shoes up, put the dog food down, pick-up my handbag from the floor, but not to go down the allotment (if I had one) and start digging for the afternoon.

After a couple of days the eye was a bit misty, but it has cleared now. Life is definitely brighter.

thank you, I had mine done last Tuesday and wasn’t really given any advice other than to use my eye shield and drops. My eye is still blurry, but a huge improvement to before the op.

Please use all the drops as advised, do not bend down or lift anything heavier than a kettle of water for a couple of weeks giving your eye time to heal.

The advice about not going near a very hot oven is because I believe the new lens is plastic

( or am I wrong about this?) I use sking goggles on windy days and wrap around sunglasses when we have sunshine.
