May be a silly question but when I go to the dentist I take protective glasses to wear

my dentist doesn't offer them and when I asked previously he found a very old scratch pair

in the drawer.I have had a preserflo shunt to my left eye which I have told him about

but he looks at me when I put my glasses on in a quizzical way am I being a bit over the top

to wear them or just sensible .Just to ad my preserflo has worked really well pressure

down from 35 to 16 and I have now had it for 1 year 3 months. Luck and best wishes

to you all.

I’ve never had a dentist who didn’t give you a pair of plastic specs to wear, otherwise your face gets splashed. So you keep going with your specs- anything to protect your eyes once you have glaucoma has to be a good thing.

I have always been given protective glasses at the dentist NHS or private in recent years. I think you are being sensible in protecting your eyes.

Yes I always felt I should be offered glasses so thanks very much for your reply.

I'd echo the two previous replies. I've always been provided protective glasses during a hygienist appointment. You're being practical.

Keep up with the glasses. Best to keep your eyes protected and if they ask just explain why you need them 🙂

You are being sensible. I have always been given protective glasses, both dentist and hygienist.. I even close my eyes when brushing my teeth to protect them. When you have had operations for glaucoma it is especially important to protect your eyes to avoid anything falling into them and causing infection.

You need to explain this to your dentist, and take your own eye protection if necessary.

Thank you Astilbe

I would raise an eyebrow back at your dentist next time and tell them it is standard practice to provide patients with protective glasses these days.

Thank you I have been to other dentist and they always give the glasses this is my local dentist that I have been accepted as an NHS patient very close to my home it's very modern and he seems a good dentist. So next week at my check up I shall indeed raise my eyebrow as I put on my protective eye ware .Thank you and everyone for taking the time to reply to me and now I have the confidence.

Not only does my lovely dentist give me eye protection but also puts a square of lead shield over my pacemaker 😊Keep your protective glasses with you at all dental visits, your dentist hopefully will take the hint. Good health to you Lovely View. Tom
