Burning feet in an elderly person who doesn't have diabetes

Hello,

My 93-year-old mother recently began experiencing burning, tingling feet at night. She reports that her feet feel like "hot bricks" and the tingling and burning is so severe her sleep is interrupted. She has had a recent blood work up and physical and is in good health. The doctor offered no solution or treatment, just said something about it probably being a circulation issue. Arnica gel and massage seems to provide slight relief. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can get cooling gel mats, which may help. I have two so that when one heats up I can swap it over for the other one. I got mine on Amazon.

I use the cooling chillow pillows for the burning feet. Have it in my hands too and wakes me up most nights. Doctors have no answers. Your poor mum.

My mother and I both have erythromelalgia, so there may be a genetic component. Has your mum been evaluated by a rheumatologist? There is no official treatment currently, but research is ongoing. Paracetamol, Dramamine (Gravol in Canada) and Cyclizine help relieve my symptoms

May be peripheral neuropathy. She may find wearing socks in bed helps

Did they test her B12 ? Result needs to be over 500 :-)

I think the person who mentioned a rheumatologist was spot on. Also, I would recommend a pain specialist.

Hi oh I feel so bad for your mom

I have these symptoms too.

I am 67 and on maximum 2400 mg Gabapentin and I use OTC

Aspercreme with lidocaine which I rub all over my feet. Because you’re mom is elderly best to check with pharmacy or doctor before trying remedies for her safety. Poor thing please tell her I understand her suffering and send her my love.
