Hi All, i have recently been diagnosed with FND by neurology and im having trouble accepting it. I constantly have pain all over the top half of my body. My arms and hands constantly shake.(Texting is a nightmare). My spine shakes and it feels like someone is shaking the chair or couch. My left eye goes sore and blurry but when i go to the opticians they say its fine. I have trouble sleeping and i have struggled with anxiety and OCD since childhood. All this is making me struggle as a man, husband and father. Does anyone feel similar? Thank you for any replies.

Hello. Yes, don't worry - this is all "normal" for FND. I have all those symptoms, and more. It was totally weird and scary at first, but now (four years later) I'm used to it and I just work my life around it. The symptoms come and go, and fluctuate in severity. The less I stress about it, the better it is. For me, it is very important to listen to my body/brain. I have to get enough sleep, eat properly, lay off the caffeine and alcohol, and find ways to reduce stress (go for walks, read, watch comedy shows, have a laugh with friends). I've also found it useful, and reassuring, to learn as much about the condition as possible. The FND society is putting on monthly zoom lectures - these are the top experts in the field. There are also a lot of research papers and articles online. What I have learned, basically, is that it's a neurological condition of the brain's "software", that they don't really know yet how it works, but are beginning to get some understanding of it. Don't feel bad or guilty about it - all the people I've met with it (a lot of people now) have been really good people who are really responsible and caring. None of us asked to join this club, but it's good company! Hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions.

Thank you Van604 for your reply. I do what i can but when the pain and shakes get too much it frustrates me. It takes a while for me to relax with it all. Thanks again

Might be worth them investigating the option of migraines. I had the same problem with relentless visits to the opticians to be told it’s nothing only to find out it was the start of a migraine and all the symptoms you mentioned. I also suffered pain in the top half of my body due to that. Hope things improve for you soon.
