Where's the fire in delaying/pausing chemo?

3 weeks ago I started chemo with the Cabazitaxel/Carboplatin combination (I'd rather not name the hospital for now)

I had a bad reaction to the first infusion (it turned out that I had an undetected infection, so my immunity was rock-bottom) As a result of that experience (10 days in hospital, wiped out, and getting G-CSF injections to top-up non-existent red and white blood cells), my primary oncologist has insisted that infusion #2 be delayed by a couple of weeks to allow me to fully recover.

The infusing hospital are saying that would be like giving me 'all of the side effects without any of the benefits' and have insisted we press on with no more than one week delay.

I seem to regularly come across chemo protocols that are paused /delayed because of low blood counts, without anyone expressing concern. Can anyone speculate on why, in this case, 'two weeks is too long'? Is there something particular about Cab or Carbo that demands adherence to such rigid scheduling?

Until your blood counts and condition get stabilized, you should not be receiving drugs that worsen the counts. Your MO is right... the infusing hospital should defer to your MO. Delaying the infusion by a week does not reduce the efficacy of the chemo..

Who at the hospital said this stuff ??

If you were in the US, I'd be shocked if the hospital did not defer such a decision to your oncologist who ordered the chemo.
