I haven't tried this personally, but do know of someone who has been on it for over a year, so gave her a ring
She said it takes 6 weeks or so before you feel any benefits from it, and also any initial side effects should be less bothersome after that period.
Apparently you should take it in the morning but she recommends that if the side effects are particularly troublesome at first that you take it at night to begin with - this sleeping through the worst of the side effects
If the side effects get bad, or you feel no differently at all after a month, you should return to your doctor and advise him
I was recommended a SNRI called Duloxetine by the Pain clinic at the beginning when diagnosed Fibro back in 2006 and I personally found it very helpful for my pain experience.
I have never experienced any side effects with any medication I have been prescribed but I know others have sensitivity to drugs due to the Fibro.
As with all medication what suits one may not necessarily suit another individual. You sound like you are worried about some of the side effects. All drug companies have to list all the possible side effects that have been reported.
Please be aware of the side effects but also remember that the majority of people may experience the more common side effects listed rather than any of the others.
I expect someone else with comment about their experience of Venaflaxine for symptom control and/or depression.
I hope this helps
Emma
I've been on this for about a year, maybe slightly over that time. I get sweats and nausea but i am not sure if this is related to or because of other meds i take. the other name of this med is Venlafaxine ( there is quite a few names for this tablet) However it works for me and i tend NOT to look at side effects because if i did for the amount of meds i take , well it would drive me crazy!!!! I was in hospital recently and the doctor said i should be taking this tablet at night and not in the morning so i have changed my routine to accommodate taking this med at night now. Most tablets have side effects but you have to trust your doctor and not live your life stressing about side effects
Hi I've been on 'Effexor' another word for it, for almost 14 years now, the only side effect I got was when I first started taking them I would get a dizzy feeling with back floaters flying around but they said this would be for the first 3 weeks and yes they stopped. I started off on 75mg then went up to 325 daily I eventually cut this down to 75mg but this fluctuates as to how I feel.
PLEASE always take your tablet as the withdrawl symptoms are terrible if you miss one! x
I took Venlaflaxine for six months and it had no effect on me whatsoever, apart from a mild dizziness and upset tum for the first week. I can't say it did me a lot of good, but my friend reckons he owes his life to it!
It's safe to take, so see if it agrees with you. Disregard a mildly upset tum, because that will soon pass, but if it's really bad and makes you miserable, best to tell your GP straight away.
