I have taken these on the odd occasion and noticed a slight difference but may just have been a placebo effect. Be careful with them though as can interact with prescribed medications. I have read on the internet of stories where people are saying they have noticed an improvement with them though, but not sure how long they had been taken them.
Not having tried this I went to to check for reviews advice and comments on the Internet, found lots of places selling it ....no surprise there.. All the reviews I looked at said first check with your GP .. So then I went to results and found it was pretty much split 50/50 as to whether it helped....one reveiw said missing a dose made them very sick... So really I would check with your GP as to if you can take it as it says it helps depression you may have to come off meds as it may clash with meds.. So you have to decide which you want to take and some reviews said after a while on it the effects wore off....
Basically from what I read its best to ask your GP and then decide whether you want to risk paying for something that seems to be a 50/50 split on whether it works
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, I would normally say wait and see if someone else has tried it.. But as the results for and against are so evenly split it really is an ask your GP and see if you can afford to risk it working for you

Thank for replying, I have docs on wednesday so think I will ask him. Just I was in holland n Barrat this afternoon and the assistant who has fibro and her mother too, she said she looked it up and apparently has serotin in which is what apparently we lack, and when she looked in their book it said for fibro hmm I said. I have just got flax seed so I am givin that a go as really need to kick myself up me bum cos the weight is doin me in and all I keep doing is binge eating. Marcia x
5HTP is hydroxytriptofan, an amino acid found in milk, turkey and tuna mainly. It helps raise seretonin in the brain. I found it quite helpful to get a better quality of sleep. I didn't need to take it every night.
I just eat a banana a day it has serotonin magnesium and potassium been eating one a day for 18 months and my leg cramps at night have gone.....
Asking your GP is a great idea
Good luck

But as already stated be careful as it can interact with medications. And what works for one may not work for another as i have found out it is very much a case of finding what works for you.
Oh my looked at all the different ones and all the prices, surely if we were that lacking in so many we would a ) be dead b) be able to get some on prescription surely ....
That is actually scary. I,m amazed I have lived with fibro for 23 years ... Looking at all the things I could be deficient in I should be dead
I do eat banana s but my legs still ave spasms so might eat a few more lol. But didn't know they had serotin in. Thanks weetham very interesting and will not get them till I ask doc as knowing me will come out in a rash or be sick. Marcia x
I just wished there was a straight forward plain structure and then we wouldn't have to do this tht wonder if this is ok and this is not. Marcia x
I know exactly what you mean, it's bad enough having fibro but that it affects us all differently is plain evil on fibros part.....

Oh yes, at the moment I look ten months pregnant and swollen everywhere x
I would not pay to much attention to the prices as they can be found cheaper elsewhere, however i would not be to quick in downing all of them as there is proven research that some of these supplements can help! Strangely enough it was on asking my GP about one of them that started of my prescribed medication journey some years ago and i can promise you that not all prescribed medication is a magic cure for your ailments. Some people do get a lot of good from some of these more natural remedies than from prescribed medications so please do not be put off by all this negativity and find what works for you. As i can tell you from experience that i have never felt suicidal whilst trying supplements where as i certainly have with some of the GP's medications. We are all different and react differently to medications and supplements.
HI ive tried the 5HTP, and it did help me. I then did my own reserch and have been taking another amino acid called DLPA. It has significantly helped my fibro symptoms. Be careful tho as it raises blood pressure. But loom it up, it gives me more energy, lifts my mood and is good for long term chronic pain.
As the others have said it may work for one but not for everyone. Its the difference tho between me being able to walk my dogs some days or when ive run out its been two days and my poor doggies havent been out. So for me it works very well.
Good luck if you do try it.xxx
Anything that can boost serotonin - 5HTP, St Johns Wort, etc - may interact with medications that also boost serotonin, As well as SSRI anti-depressants (fluoxetine, etc), this includes amitriptyline and Tramadol.
Morning, thank you to all your replys, this has helped lots thanks marcia x
