I'm in the support group and I still pay council tax.
The only people I found listed as exempt are people over the working age limit with limited funds... All people on benefits seem to have to pay a small percentage... I have just received my bill ....last year I paid nothing... This year £250 .....
VGx
I am in support group and I will have to find £429.00 because I have 2 kids who are working but still living at home. I think the days of 100% rebate are well and truly over.
Well the letter I got from the council states those on ESA with SC ie support component are exempt. The SC is the bit that is unclear, we all get the component rate on ESA.
Perhaps it depends on your council..... If so I am moving to wherever you are
Could be VG but I don't see how that would work, surely the rules must be the same for everyone. I have a sneaking suspicion that those in WRAG are not exempt, which means I now have a good reason to appeal to be in SG.
it all depends on your local council. the government no longer do the council tax or council tax rebates it is now all down to the local councils to do their own scheme. last yr i paid none this year £290 all due to my autistic son getting esa (support group) and DLA and classed as a non dependent income. ask at your local council offices what their rebate policy is.
Sorry ESA but From the letter I received everyone no matter what benefit people
are on if they are of working age they will have to pay some council tax... We were entitled to 100% rebate last year this year we will get the maximum rebate..75% ... Each council is now in charge of council tax .......
If council tax is not deducted from source, I know some people on the dole that will do jail time rather than pay it, the more the better I say, make it to costly for them to bill the unemployed and sick so they may scrap it.
had my council tax bill and have to pay £800 a year as i am in esa work group. and have been told will have to £25 a week for my rent. so that is my disability and esa gone, just to pay my bills. have had letter to tell me theyare going to cut my gas off so i said go ahead i don,t care any more, i can,t afford to use it any way.i get very frustrated with nthings these days.
I'm on ESA and in the WRAG group (!!) and I get full Council Tax rebate this year, but I will have to pay £9 a week rent as my housing benefit has been cut due to the 'bedroom tax'. I only have 2 small bedrooms for God's sake, a family of 4 would never fit in!! I have asked them to look at their decision again as I'm on DLA and need a carer....sometimes!! XX
Do you know that if your bedrooms are small and under a certain size, they are classed as box rooms and you dont have to pay the bedroom tax. I cant remember the site but I'll try and find it for you. And you can measure the room and see if you qualify. I'll have a look just now
Ive had a look and government are saying that its a rumour about the boxroom. But what I read last week was that if the bedroom was under 70 square feet it was classed as a boxroom, and the bedroom tax would not apply.
Cutting gas off is an easy fix if you know how they do it, you can undo it.
I don't know how anyone who relies on benefits alone can afford this, in pilot areas where housing benefit is now being given to claimants directly, rent arrears has soared by more than 30% almost overnight.
I can see the same thing happening with council tax, people on JSA can't live on what they get as it is, they simply will not be able to afford it. They will either pay fuel bills or council tax, or say sod the lot of them.
I get DLA and have just been transferred from IB to ESA WRAG ( I am appealing to be put in the support group) ,but I get full housing benefit £495 a month, and I get a rebate on my council tax. and pay £27 a month. I donbt know anyone who gets the full council tax rebate.. My son is in his own flat and gets job seekers £71 a week and he has to pay £25 a month for his council tax, he says he has to decide whether to buy food or heat his flat. I am in Scotland
im support group just got bill for 401 for 6 month poll tax but iv getting no coucill tax support payment like everyone have they made a mistake dont know please any one how much councill tax should i pay on support group pleas
