I dont know what it is but my wrists, sholders, elbows and ankles are constantly making sickening cracking sounds, all i have to do is pick something up and my wrists sounds like snapping twigs???? Its not painful most of the time but the sound makes me feel sick.
Yes Eversohappy (what a lovely name), every part of me creaks, if I bend my neck to one side a huge creeky noise, like pulling your fingers, and worse, also shoulders knees ankles wrists, I'm supposed to have a mild version of osteoporosis as found in a mri scan one and a half years ago, I KNOW its worse now!, (more creaks and pains), I also have RA in my knees and wrists, and vt d and calium deficiency), (illnesses connected for me anyway to bones) do you have any of the same illnesses? I also have degerative spine condition. take care Claire xx
Hi clair, thanks...lol eversohappy aint so happy today lol. I have fibro and ME. Its not so much creaks although i do creak.. but its loud snapping noises just as if you had snapped a thin dry twig, If im sat and lift my right leg to bring it strite, i get a deep cloncking noise, I had an arthroscopy a few years a go to remove some tissue that was getting caught and caused me a lot of pain, really bad throbbing, thats gone now and left me with a cloncking noise lol, my shouldres the same when i rotate my arm but these snapping noises are so loud its unreal and its all the time.
My dad has bad osteoperosis, they never mentioned it to me though and i had an MRI B4 my diagnosis for fibro, but that was back in 2006 when i had the scan. Diagnosed in 2007 !!!
Haha, im just falling to bits, literally....Take care xx shelley
Yup I do but I have osteoarthritis as well as fibro so I just assumed it was that ... I really hope you haven't developed arthritis on top of everything else... Have you mentioned it to your GP or do you see a rheumatologist .. If not I would ask for a referral to see what's going on.
Fingers crossed it isn't arthritis

Hi VG, How do they diagnose Osteoarthritis? can they do it by blood tests? xx
• in reply to
No not for osteo they can for rheumatoid .. My GP sent me to a rheumatologist and he got me to move the joints and they cracked and groaned and then I got sent for X-rays and they showed wear and tear so i wasn't too bothered till my GP explained wear and tear was the general name for osteo arthritis .. I am really hoping you don't have it cos my fibro was Definately better when I was more mobile but in five years its gone from my ankle to both knees up to my thumbs and finally in my neck . I am hoping it will reach my ears and fall out leaving me with just fibro again. On the positive if it is arthritis my rheumy got me loads of aids for the bungalow ..( yeah we had to sell our house as the stairs were killing my knees ) to help and special insoles to help my ankles and there are loads of meds to help but I still hope you don't have it

oH my god, just written a long reply and its not there !!! so here i go again lol.
Your doc sounds loads better than mine, Im goin to ask for a referal then because im def getting worse, I got diagnosed in 2007 but coped really well, on a scale of 1 to 10, the pain was prob below 4, now its at least a 9 or 10 everyday and thats with all my pain meds, Gabbapentin, Co-codamol.
My knees are like rubber, i had a bad fall in 2010, got up for work was on my way down stairs and my knee gave way, came down 7 steps, which is quite high to land on ya knee cap lol. Spent 2 weeks on crutches with a badly bruised knee. They initially said id prob broke my leg, thank god i hadnt. But all the same very painful.
Ive only ever seen a neurologist, and that was because my dr suspected MS, maily due to the speech problems i was having, headaches, right sided weakness and vision problems, the worst was the feelings of creepy crawlies running up my back, and feelings of water running down my thighs..
Neurologist said i def had right sided weakness, but symptoms were inline with fibro!!
Thanks for the info, im def goin to get a referal
xx shelley

If you have a GP appt soon mention it and if he doesn't mention seeing a rheumatolgist ask if he can refer you... Mine did without asking but I suspect that was just to get rid of me for a while. If you don't I would make an appt cos IF it is arthritis it will get worse without treatment .
Good luck

I will do, i ringin them tomorrow i will let you know xx
Eversohappy i have osteoarthritis too, causing the cracking. Sorry.
Very-grumpy I'm glad to hear there are meds that can help. I take nothing but paracetamol so far, which doesn't help! I'm hoping for something from the rheumy when I see him next.
Unfortunately rowantree paracetamol is all I take , there are many meds and have tried lots and been taken off them all by GP , going back next week for another review , but if you can tolerate meds there are lots to try . Fingers crossed you find something that suits you
I have 'cracks' too. It's called crepitus and is caused by the lack of fluid inbetween the joints....there's no cushioning for the bones. Sounds terrible and can be really painful. Especially in my knees. I get frightened to straighten my legs sometimes cos I know it's gonna hurt!! XXX
Thanks Sue, Im at docs tomorrow so at least i have a name for it lol. My wrists are the worst, I swear one day they are going to snap and go floppy lol
In 2011 I fell down the stairs 5 times because I was in an old home now in June I fell again and now my knee is snapping like a twig like yours and it hurts so bad everytime I try to get it straight so I feel for you.
i have advanced osteoarthritis and what youve described is exactly what i get every joint 'cracks' or creaks, its called crepitus which you get with osteo, im on painkilers each day but i agree with you it is a sickening 'noise' just turning to look to my left or right it 'cracks ! my gp said theres nothing he can do only knee replacement further down the line but i really dont want to do that unti i have no choice,
I get lots of cracking & creaking sounds, they are annoying and always seem so loud - especially the ones in my neck. I have spondylosis of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine as well as OA, in my hips and hands so the crepitus (aka the root word for decrepit!) is all part & parcel of that. This getting old lark isn't much fun!
