I was having an absolute nightmare with heartburn and was eating Gaviscon tablets like smarties and for all the good they were doing they may as well have been smarties! But now prescribed Ranitidine and it really seems to be helping.

I also found gaviscon didn't work but was told it only masks the acid rather than getting rid of it x thank you xx

Self help is to avoid eating large meals, especially before bed time. Avoid junk foods like pizza's and pies, all processed foods. If that fails, see your GP and ask for Lansoprazole.

PS, now heartburn free unless I forget my own advice, then its back to square 1. ;)

The funny thing is I don't eat certain foods that I know will bring it on but I wake up with it first thing in the morning x this week I've hardly eaten anything and still had it really bad xx

Hello Spurs8r,

I wonder could you be taking a medication that could be contributing to acid reflux and heartburn symptoms? I would consider a visit to the GP as most have advised to explain the symptoms and he/she will know your medical history and current medications.

He/she may start something for the problem like Lansoprazole , please see link below or adjust your medication if that is something he/she thinks may be aggravating the symptoms

I hope you get some help for it soon

Your doc could give you something if you tell him that Gaviscon hasn't helped you!

Reflux problems like this can be eased with a medicine called a 'proton-pump inhibitor' which will prevent you from making too much acid.

Omeprazole and Lansoprazole are the two most common ones used. It's worth asking your GP about this, as the treatment is easy, and prevents further problems developing.

Also he will examine you to see if you are developing a gastric ulcer, which does need prompt treatment!

Moffy x

I take omniprazole 20mg I tablet twice a day before being put on this my food was very limited as so many things caused acid reflux and many meds I have tried have aggravated it I also got knocked out to have an endoscopy that was fine. So please see your GP for meds and to check there isn't anything like an ulcer

Hope you get some relief soon as its not nice at all to have heartburn all the time.

Sometimes heart burn just happens. I swear by Andrews - they used to be called Liver Salts, but now they're called Andrews Health Salts. Sainsbury's do their own brand its cheaper and just as effective. It works for me. Also try drinking cider vinegar best to visit your gp if none of the advice works.

Hi I seem to get it really bad heartburn during the night when I just have a drink of water. I found sucking a small piece of a Setler does the trick. I keep one handy on my bedside table so I dont make too much noise and disturb my husband.

Give it a try what have you got to lose.

Hope you are having a good day.

Bye for now love A xx

It may also be worth noting that if you take a lot of pain killers (fibro fog can't remember tech name), such as ibuprofen, diclofenac or naproxen, could irritate your stomach lining and lead to ulcers, etc. If you take these, you should be on proton pump inhibitors and have further investigations by doctors.

Hi!

I'm new to this site as I have an long standing underactive thyroid issue as well as fibro. I have suffered with heartburn for years and it was getting so that even a glass of water would set it off.

I have been taking Nature's Best Betaine HCL with Pepsin and it has solved the problem completely.

Hope this helps.

I'm prescribed omeprazole, 20mg. It's one of a group of medicines known as Proton pump inhibitors. Basically helps to control the amount of acid your stomach makes. I hopeyou're pprescribed something that works.
