I am not well up on employment law, it depends on your contract. I think your employer has to pay sick pay, not sure how much or for how long. Then of course there is the prospect of redundancy to consider, how much that is worth, I have no idea. Best you contact the CAB for advice ASAP.

I was working for the Environment Agency when I was first signed off work ill and it drew on for about 15 months. You can get claim ESA only once you have stopped getting paid from your employer, only then can you start to apply for that benefit. If possible I would see if work can finish you off rather than you leaving, because it can help toward the benefit or mess up your tax later on. All I could tell you is what I've experienced myself. I was signed off and and off and off and ect, until 15 months later it got to the point where they could no longer keep my job open for me. If you can during this week or the within the next couple see if you have someone who works in Employment & Support or possibly the CAB and they will be able to advise you properly. I just don;t want people to go through what I was going through. I'm sorry if this doesn't exactly help you. If you want to talk further or ask me anything else then I'm always here. I may not reply straightaway but I will help you out as much as I can. Gentle fibro hugs to you hun :) xxxxxx

Hi

I work for the NHS or PCT as they are known at the moment here

On the Isle of Wight it's soon to change to a foundation trust

A little complicated so I will call it NHS.

Anyway I can have 6 months off on full pay, not sure after that but

I think you don't get pain after that, after they would try to get shot

If me

sorry forgot to say it might be worth phoning acas they are very good with employment advice

linlit is absolutly right, DONT hand in your notice... it will depend on how long you have worked for them?. They do have to pay sick pay, for how long i'm not sure but i know someone who has been on the sick for 12 months and they havent finished her yet...

I would def first look at your contract, see what that states and take it from there. Assuming you dont have a contract just keep sending in your fit notes in from the gp. You can speak to your HR dept if you have one, or occupational health. hope this helps. But dont resign, xx
