I feel as if sometimes I forget to breath and panic and then have to concentrate on breathing regularly in case I forget again. My heart also sometimes give a big bump. I would be grateful for any ideas. Does anyone have anything similar which can be linked to fibromyalgia? Thank you.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I need a bit of help. Does anyone have problems with their breathing.
Hello.
Firstly, welcome to our lovely forum.
I used to have this a lot. It seemed as though I could just stop breathing, and I would have to think consciously that i had to do it, instead of it being automatic.
I haven't had this for ages though.
More recently, what I have had though, is where it seems as though the muscles between my ribs just 'freeze' and breathing becomes hard work.
I've always assumed that both of these problems were part of the fibro, symptoms can be so,varied, and variable!
If you are worried its always worth having a chat with your GP, to rule out any other possible causes.
Take care
Kaz
Yup happens to me too, my heart occasionally feels like it has skipped a beat despite my GP testing and an overnight stay In hospital proving nothing more than me hogging a bed overnight... Do you have rib pain, you might be starting chostochondritis which I developed along with fibro that's where the ligaments that join your ribs to your sternum get terribly sore and it hurts to breathe cos you are stretching them and they don't want to....I would suggest you mention it to your GP

Hi all,
I'm not sure this is fibro - it sounds like hyperventilation syndrome, which is not uncommon in people with an anxious disposition - I guess that includes nearly all of us!
Anyone with breathing problems should obviously get checked out by their doc, but if you have no history of chest or heart problems, and this comes on you suddenly, try getting a paper bag (NOT PLASTIC!!!) and breathe in and out into it for about 45 seconds.
This will alter the carbon dioxide level in your blood very slightly, and should make you feel better very quickly. If it doesn't help, then seek medical advice.
The trouble with having fibro as well, is that inevitably hyperventilation will make your chest muscles feel very sore, so if this does prove to be your problem, then relaxation exercises will help a lot - the same ones you do when you're pregnant. Most doctors can arrange for you to be taught this technique, and personally I have found it very good for fibro in general, as it seems to lessen the pain.
Hope this is helpful ... love Moffy x
Hi nice to meet you and welcome,, I'm a newbie too,,, this is actually how I ended up getting diagnosed it started with the breathing issues , That was my first step to really pushing all the other symptoms i had ,,,,later got diagnosed with an irregular heart beat and fast heart rate . Then fibromylalga ,, I would advise prompt action to go to your GP tho. As I couldn't say if it is directly linked to fibro , it seems common with people who have fibro issues but I certainly would get it checked out ,,, I am on beaterblockers now , and still waiting to go to the sleep clinic I wake up at night short of breath . It's a must to get it checked . My heart rate is a lot better now. My breathing is too. X
I should also add, beaterblockers although have a lot of controversial opinions have been great for me I am on the lowest dose prescribed , but worked instantly , my heart is fine a works ok, doctor and cardiologist thought they were palpitations brought in by been over anxtuios , sorry bout spelling dyslexic , ,, let us know how you get on and if you get problem solved ,, take care, don't worry x
Hello Misery, I am so sorry you are experiencing these symptoms. Please ensure you see your GP to get all of this checked out. It's always best to be on the safe side and check out breathing problems, heart rhythms that are unusual etc., just to rule out anything else and to ensure we get the correct treatment and meds for our symptoms.
Please let us know how you get on. Wishing you all the very best.

Hi I have breathing problems and I have a feeling of tightness under my bust which is there 24/7. I had many tests in the heart, lung & chest department at the hospital and in the end I was told it was the FM. I take a steroid pump twice a day and have my breathing checked at the Doctors regularly. My heart feel like it misses a beat sometimes I was told also it is the FM. To be quite honest everything that has gone wrong with me after tests it is always the FM. My advice is for you to see your Doctor I hope this helps. x
Hi ya
Yes I have the same,I also have problems swallowing.
Iv been to the sleep apnea clinic as I also stop breathing when asleep,Iv got an appointment with a consultant on feb 14 for the results.
I was able to have the test done at home,I went to the hospital and they attached a monitor to my chest for the night, the nurse that done it said they have a lot of people with fibro come in with breathing problems.
You really need to get checked out by your Dr,they will probably refer you to a consultant to have it looked into.

Thank you everyone who answered my question.
