Ive been on amytriptyline for the past month for sciatic pains and my GP has increased the dose to 30mg in the last week... Ive now put on 9lbs. I have now stopped taking the medication.
I was wondering will the extra weight that i have gained will come off now that ive stopped the medication.

I have been on amitriptyline for years and can honestly say have seen to connection with the medication or weight gain. To be honest if you have been prescribed amitriptyline you are advised to decrease ur dosage steadily and not just stop taking it. Once i ran out and couldn't get to the doctors and the withdrawal was horrendous! Please be careful! Xx
I have just started amitriptaline only 10 mg as a supplement to my other meds, I am actually losing weight with them, but then I am always awkward, have heard lots of people say they gained weight on this but my other meds have made me put on over a stone, and if I come off them so does the weight, being new to amitriptaline is it safe just to stop hope you feel ok off them
I stopped taking it 4 days ago and feel no different. The amitriptyline to be honest did not make any difference to the sciatic pains. All i noticed was that i slept like a log!!!!
I have actually been eating alot less and i cant believe ive put on so much weight.
If they don't help with the pain then there is no point in taking them unless you were finding it hard to sleep and relax at night then they would be beneficial. It's surprising how different medication effect different people. Hope you find something that works soon and eases your pains x
