I've been prescribed Naproxen for my Fibro - does anyone else take this & does it help?
Hi Sarah,
I was prescribed Naproxen a while ago and found it no different to diclofenac or any other anti-inflammatories that I've been prescribed e.g. no help. Has your Doc put you on any other meds? Cause my GP said for fibro I should be on painkiller, anti-inflammatory and tricyclic med like amytriptaline and that helps a little. Hope that helps you and good luck!
Big hugs x x
I'm already on Amitrip so I'm hoping along with the Naproxen I might get some relief from the pain x
Been on naproxen for a number of years but never felt any benefit. I stopped taking it altogether with no ill/side effects. Developed shingles couple of months later which has left me with mega flare up so went on tramadol. Wow what a difference. I feel like a new woman. I am already on 400 mg of lyrica and this makes tramadol work to maximum potential so I only need 1 of them 4x daily. If I need to stay on the pain relief then the doc going to try me on MST. A big no to naproxen though. Hope this helps
Sarah, I'd talk to your GP about pain relief, as I suffered in (almost) silence for years. I'm currently on buprhenorphine patches which takes the edge of my daily pain, but not when it gets worse. I've had no benefit (in terms of pain) from any other meds, but amitrip helps keep me asleep for a couple of hours x x
I talked to my GP today that's why he prescribed the Naproxen. He suggested I try it and see how I am with it then I will see him in the new year and have a review. I take Amitrip for TMJ pain x
Hi I used Naproxen for several years and it gave terrific relief so I hope it works for you. I had to come off it as had strange reaction became light sensatif in my skin so canot use it any more. The relief it gave was good!

Thanks Gin, good to hear it worked for you - I haven't tried it yet but will soon xx
I was put on Naproxen about 3 months ago after being in tremendous pain for a month. They took about a fortnight to kick in but since then have not been so bad with the pain. At the time I started them I was walking very slowly and could barely cross the road to the bus stop so had almost stopped going out.
Thank you - I hope they continue to help you xx
Hello there Sarah
Here's some info for you on Naproxen, hope its helpful -

Naproxen is quite a commonly used medication for disorders of the joints, muscles and tendons so is suitable for Fibromyalgia. We all tend to react differently to our meds so just because this may not help with one person, it may work very well for someone else.
Any concerns you may have about your medications, please speak to your GP about this.
Take care Sarah, hope you manage to have a good weekend!

I have worked my way through most pain meds - I not only have fibro - but also painful diabetic neuropathy...
Now take MST (50 mg bd)- slow release morphine with oramorph for breakthrough pain..which works fine atm - dose gets titrated when necessary
but u shudnt take naproxen if u are of child bearing age as they can cause misscarriages, as i found out 1st hand. at the moment im takin a form of co-codamol called zapain and amitriptaltine, which isnt striong enuf but had to cum off tramadol wen was 16 wks pregnant with my little boy whos now 14weeks old, i need sumfin stronger but i was really ill when came off the tramadol as had bin on them for 6yrs
Hi i have taken Naproxen and find them very good for the pain, but dont take them very often cos doc said they can be very addictive.im also on mirtazipine which is an anti depressant and a sedative to help with my lack of sleep. hop this helps.
Sue xx
Hi Sue, thanks for replying. I haven't tried one yet as I'm on antibiotics for an infection but I will try them soon. xx
Naproxen is prescribed to people with Fibro relatively commonly, but as it is a NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) and Fibro is not inflammatory, it is not a recommended treatment for Fibro and is likely to benefit those who have inflammatory problems as well as Fibro.
my advice is think very carefully before starting on Anti-inflammatories,i have cirrhosis due in no small part to prescription meds over 25yrs.check dose and have regular liver function tests.they do help but only if you have other forms of arthritis ,i never understand if fibro is non inflammatory why they insist on nsaids.good luck just be careful nb thats is only from my own experience of course .
sorry lindseymid i did not read your answer before posting xx
