Sometimes i can take it and others not, i get headaches and reaction in my stomach, what reactoins are you having?

Tramadol is an analgesic used to relieve severe pain. It works on the nerves and brain to reduce the pain you feel.

Side effects can include feeling or being sick, constipation, diarrhoea, dry mouth, tiredness, palpitations, light headedness, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness and headache.

Any side effects that worry you, please speak to your GP about this, just to check that everything is ok and normal for this medication.

I take this medication occasionally when my other meds don't help. I have a rather nicer side effect though as I have what I call 'musical day dreams'. I hear all kinds of wonderful music and choirs singing! My GP said that they are auditory hallucinations. I have heard that others have far less pleasurable side effects though, the feeling of 'skin crawling' being a frequent one. Have only had it after ops, but my God, they are awful for me. 1st time broken ankle needed op to fix. Kept thinking my feet were turning into bird talons. Had to keep propping myself up to look. It was soo real. 2nd time, rushing feelin inside my body, crying, almost like a panic attack I am told. Horrible. Never ever want to take them again!

I was put on tramadol I was so excited because I had read about it on here...... didn't relieve any pain but gave me the worst headache ever like someone was pounding on my head with a red hot iron pick axe, I tried it for a couple of weeks when the pain was really bad and the added headache made me feel worse but that was the only side effect for me

I don't have any side effects, I take 150 slow release, and I have

50 for break though pain

I don't find that it's much good, but if I take 100 at a time it

Does take the edge off, but you would have to check with

Doctor if that is ok for you but on the packet it says one to

Two when needed, also you would need to make sure you

Don't go over the amount that is safe to take

It can be addictive, but there are days that I only have a small

Amount, and don't have any withdrawal but I expect that is because

It's still in my system .

To be truthful given the choice, addiction or pain, I would. Choose

Addiction

Made me like a zombie, knew exactly what was going on around me but couldn't move, speak or do anything except just sit and wait for it to wear off. Only took that one, never again.

I know a lady who is in her late eighties who takes 8 a day and she is fine.

I've taken Tramadol for the last 10 years without too many problems. I agree that it does have side effects but (for me) these are outweighed by its pain killing effects. The trouble with Tramadol is that it just doesn't work with almost every anti-depressant there is...

At one time I was on an anti-depressant (Venlafaxine), which I took for 6 years alongside Tramadol. I was experiencing quite nasty side effects and decided to ditch the anti-depressants. This took me 4 serious attempts & I had to reduce them very slowly & gradually weaned myself off them. I do notice when I'm running low on Tramadol by what I call body rushes, but I also get these when my morphine cover is thinning so cannot be absolutely certain this is due to Tramadol or something else or a combination of things!! Sorry I know that's not helpful.

During the last 4 years I've felt better without the anti-depressants but now the pain clinic want me to start taking another one. I pointed out that I take Tramadol (most days - but not all - I take 150mg modified release + 2 x 50mg tabs) along with my Fentanyl patches & Gaberpentin & it seems that we are back to square one with the doctor checking & saying "Oh, yeah, you're right - they don't mix well...!" So after all this time (I was on loads and loads of Tramadol before I was put onto morphine) do I cut it out to take the anti-depressants or do I stick with it???!!! My instinct is to go with the pain killer as when my pain is managed I'm "happier" anyway...!!!

I think the only real answer with anything like this is that we are all different - it's a case of "suck it and see"!!! The thing is you CAN stop taking Tramadol, you DON'T have to escalate the dose too quickly and it MAY just work for you!!

Good luck with your decision. xx

I was taking tramadol back in 1999 to 2003, but had to take the slow release topped up with the normal ones throughout the day but t wasn't touching the pain. finally in 2003 I changed over to dihydrocodeine which help me better with joint pain and now take along with various others, but I don't remember ever having any side effects with tramadol,

drugs work differently with everyone, what works for one compared with another person can vary so widely. I hope things settle for you but do speak to your pharmacist or GP f yo aren't sure xx

My OH had these after his recent op for breakthrough pain. He can only take them at night, as he feels 'trippy' and nauseous if he takes them when he's going to be staying awake. His brother's a doctor, and he said they're very common side-effects, and quite unpleasant! Probably best to see the GP if you've taken them for a month and nothing's getting better. It does take a while for your body to adjust, but severe side-effects, or mild ones that are persistent, are always worth sorting out.

Good luck xx
