I'm so torn at the moment. I'm actually having a good few weeks and I am really pleased about that. However I feel guilty claiming dla and ESA when I am we'll. it sounds silly but I'm scared ill get done for beneift fraud or something. But if I inform them I no longer need it, what happens when this good period ends?

I'm spending far too much time thinking about this....

I hate to say this ... But I suspect your good period will end just as soon an any benefits you ARE entitled too end if you give them up.. Obviously if you still feel as well in a years time then worry about it.... I had a great summer last year when it stayed warm until October then spent until this June feeling as Illl as ever July was good.. Then that's it... Have been out of the house less than once a week in the last 6. Please dont shoot yourself in the foot and live to regret it... I had my fibro well managed didn't claim dla and then got hit by arthritis which came on overnight... I went to bed ok woke up unable to walk... Now I have dla ..... If this could happen to me it could happen to anyone...

Hi Sam

Firstly congratulations on feeling so well :-) and I hope you enjoy your period of respite from this trully awfull condition. I understand your feelings of 'guilt' at claiming a benefit when your feeling well and almost normal but I think we all know the true relentlessness of fibro and while your feeling well now it doesnt take much to trigger a flare up; a change in weather, stress, a virus etc, so I would advise you to remember that slight changes in the depth of our fibro does not garantee a cure and you could go to bed feeling grand one day and wake up in intense pain in the grip of a full flare up the next. So hold on to your hard won entitlement to benefit and continue to enjoy ur period of wellness free from stress or guilt. :-)

Kind regards

Dixiexx

I had this feeling a few months ago and came down with a bang! Hate being or sending negative vibes but it may end. Mine did and I have just gone through a few weeks of hell, but I never phoned them to say I was worse! Swings and roundabouts, some days I am well some I feel like hell. You cannot phone them every time you have a good spell. I really hope it does continue for you but stop feeling guilty and enjoy the good days :)

I know exactly how you feel as I have had two weeks and three days of feeling relatively well , and I also feel a fraud but as sure as shooting I know I will be brought down to earth with a mighty big bump sometime later. I felt so guilty taking my benefits on my good days and and feel that if someone was spying on me they would guess I was faking illness. All this atos s.... has made me paranoid. So All I can say to you is enjoy the good days and you never know maybe in a few months you may get better , but give it time before inform them that you feel better .. I hope that it all works out for you .

I don't believe that you are alone in this!!! :-) I reckon that most of us get good spells once in a while and that many of us experience the "guilt"!!! My thoughts are the same as others... Enjoy your good spell but be prepared for it to end and DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR BENEFITS!!

I also understand when you say that you are spending far too much time thinking about this!!! Along with a nasty flare I have frown lines developing over the stress of ESA & DLA and long for the day when I can just relax again and not be constantly worrying about being done for "benefit fraud" or followed as I manage (on a rare day) to walk to the village shop!!!

Think about how you would cope with the stress of having/keeping a job and I'm sure you'll soon change your mind... After some consideration I'm sure you will find your "guilt" is misplaced and that your claim to benefit is genuine & deserving. xx
