Hydrotherapy ..... Which I haven't had as no hospital anywhere near me offers it . Is gentle exercises in a lovely heated pool some people find it drains them others find it a great help... Because this wasn't an option for me I searched all online bathroom stores and found a brand new jacuzzi/ whirlpool bath for £300 pounds had to buy taps and bath panel separate but I thought that was amazingly cheap... I lie in it put the bubbles on read a book have scented candles and really relax.... I don't do it more than once a week as sometimes the bubbles hurt my body and keep it as a special treat.. Rest of the week I shower.. Hope that helps

Hi,I have just started hydro as land exercise puts too much strain on joints. As the lady above said it's a heated pool with a trained physio who puts you through a gentle routine exercise the water takes the strain off limbs as i have only had one session so far i can't say if i found any improvement yet but i can say that they are only working on lower limbs and because i have pain in all joints that most exercises required me to hold unto a bed panel emerged in the water which killed my wrists/elbows and shoulders and back. The other exercise required me to place both elbows on bars to support my weight to exercise my knees which again really hurt my elbows in fact its now nearly a week later and all upper joints are sore.I think they are going on the rheumy letter where it states i have trouble walking hence lower limb exercise so when i go tomorrow i will have to tell them that i have trouble with upper limbs too to see if i can do different exercise that don't put strain on upper limbs. This is my point to you that if you have been referred to hydro please ensure they know your exact problem areas as you will have an initial assessment before using pool.I did have assessment but did not think of rheumy letter at that point hence just lower limb exercise.Good luck with it,x

I'd love to try it I must mention it to my GP next time I have to see him. I wish there were NICE guidelines for Fibro as things like Physio and Hydrotheraphy would be easier to access if they were officially listed as treatment options.

The nhs site suggest swimming and physio as other treatments - might be worth printing out the pages when I go to the GP as the silly man seems to need official permission to even sneeze!

Hi I have mentioned this before on another question .

I go to a spa or leisure club in a hotel the pool is 30+degree's after doing hydro at the hospital I could only have 7 lessons .The physio taught me what to do and I go on my own and I did manage to get really well and the swimming helped my Fibro and my Knees. Some hotels have a members club and ours charges £50 a month aprox but you can go every day. It was costing me ten a day to go to Physio in the next town so about the same price but instead of one visit I could go whenever I liked.

If you do get the chance go to hydro because it helped me so much,my muscles were so weak I could not even float properly I was only able to be in for 10 mins to start with but as I got stronger I even taught myself to swim....I cant go at the moment tho because I am having an acute flare and am unable to walk.

Good luck and keep us all posted how you get on

Gentle hugs

Hydrotherapy sessions are good for all muscular and joint pain, Most are privately run by charity and some NHS hospitals have pools in the physio department. Ask you GP if there is a pool nearby.........

I attended my pool for about 2 years, But with the ever rising costs I had to give up, Sessions can cost about £7.00 to £10 for 45 mins.

Give it a go, It certainly helped my mobility, My weight gain !! And also social support friendship with like minded mobility difficulty people..

Best wishes xx

When I exercise I feel as thou I am fighting back. I think in am. Probably getting good work out in pool. We must spread the word for other Fibromites!!!!! Thanx again

I have been going for about 9 yrs. our hospital runs it as a self help group, after you have your sessions with the Physio you can stay on and pay for the sessions using the excesses you learnt in the pool in the main sessions. they ado keep laminated exercise sheets on the pools edge for anyone to ever back to. as we are all different, the exercises need to be tailored to suit your specific condition. hydro therapy basically means therapy in water.... preferably warm water. not too hot as it can cause you to faint.

we pay £25 for 10, 30 min sessions. it's worth every penny. just a shame I live 15 miles from the hospital but have still been going all these years and would or couldn't manage without it. the price has gone up over the years and some still say it's tooo much, but you can't get much for £2.59 today!!

I have heard that many swimming pools offervspecilsessions to disabled people and they often warm the Water too. you should check in your local area. good luck hope you find one xxx
