Has anyone suffering from Fibromyalgi... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Has anyone suffering from Fibromyalgia? Had it effect thiere eyes. I am suffering very sore eyes at the momend they are red and itchy .
I don't know if it's connected to Fibromyalgia, but I have Dry Eye and that makes my eyes red & they feel gritty. Do your eyes water a lot? Your GP can prescribe you artificial tear drops.
It may be worth asking your GP or your optician if you have dry eye too.
Go to your optician. I had the ducts that lubricate the eye (not the tear ducts) blocked so was advised to use an eye bag and to take some extra vitiman/supplements
I have troubles with my eyes but that is changing vision and twitching not what you describe. I would get it checked out at docs or optitions xx
i have fibro and alsosore, red and itchy eyes too, they are also dry, my doctor has given me
eye drops which help, have you seen your doctor,
I was taking Amitryptaline and that can give you sore and dry eyes, mine are a bit better since I stopped taking it
Fibro and arthritis can cause sore dry eyes, but whatever causes it, eyes are precious and you need to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Do please see you GP or optician without delay.
Hope you feel better soon
Luv Moffy x
I also get dry eyes as well and it effects me wearing my contacts which I cant wear as much. I am seeing my optician soon anyway and I am letting them know about this.
I get very itchy eyes, and my right eye blurrs right in the centre of my vision. I Dont know if this is normal at all? DOc said to see opticians but they will only see me after 2 years
Hi Nanatre, I had some visual problems and my normal optician said the same as yours, I tried another an they have put me on yearly checks on the nhs, also you can have an eye test any time if you pay for it, hope this helps.
I also have itchy dry eyes.. this is common with fibro.. so I use optrex spray and it helps.. but not for long.. I also have the blurred vision, and my optician says to just keep using the spray.... but do check with the doctor.. don't leave anything to chance.. be safe.
I get hot & swollen eyelids that feel very tender to touch, i will be going to get my eyesite checked soon as they can go a bit blurred at times.
Hope all ribro family are having a goo day, take care x.
I have "dryeye" since I got Fibromyalgia and the doctor has put me on Viscotears Liquid gel which I find great !
I also have my eyes checked every two years.
So do I, I asked my optician said to use the eye drops that my doctor gave me for it, I cant use it all the time as there is petroleum in it, and it takes a while for your eyes to go 'clear' again, (5-10 mins), I also suffer from dry mouth, as they can both be a sign of another illness, I was glad to know I didn't have that illness ( I forget what it's called, sorry!), 'yet', does he mean I might get it sometime? I wonder
Presume you mean Sjogrens, from the symptoms? xx
Yes sotty I was worried I had it since I've always had the dry eyes and mouth, and wonder what the optician meant by 'not yet' did she mean there was a chance I would since I have fibro, you would wonder ! xxx take care xxx
Hi Claire - certain medications can affect your tear production - and give you a dry mouth, a metallic taste in your mouth etc (particularly amitriptyline relating to the mouth). I don't know what affects the eyes specifically, but I have always had dry eyes, but used to be able to wear contacts regularly, but these days with all the meds I'm on, I find my eyes get tired so easily and dry out so I'm having to put in eye drops at least once an hour. It would be so nice if there was a fibro med that fixed your fibro but also had nice side effects, rather than horrible ones!
Gerry, Get them checked out asap. On Thursday last felt queezy so told my husband I was going off to bed. By 9pm. was vomiting like mad which lasted till 3.a.m. when I could take no more.At 3,am, contacted NHS direct doctor who sent an ambulane right away. By 4.a.m. was in hospital on drip and had anti nausea injections. and had gone practically blind in my left eye. Later in the morning sent to the Eye Hospital within the main hospital where I was diagnosed with Acute Glaucoma. Seems the pressure had gone so high it has sparked the sickness off,in fact my eyewas telling my body something was wrong.
Have been telling my GP for months that there was something wrong with my eye and all they did was dole out more drops. Am on drops six times a day now and water tablets till I have laser surgery next Tuesday, Pressure has gone down although I still dont feel too good and I'm terrified, although everyone keeps telling me I wont feel anything.
So Gerry, don't let it go. Go to the opticians and see what your pressure is. My eyes were sore and itchy all the time. Hope I haven't frightened you, apologies if I have but you cant be too careful..
I had to give up on contact lenses due to Dry Eye. Nowadays my left tear duct is blocked, and I am awaiting surgery for it before I can have my cataracts done.
Cheers, Midori
Dry eyes may be caused by Sjogren's syndrome. This is not a symptom of Fibro and is an autoimmune condition. But because people with (or possibly at higher risk of getting) autoimmune conditions have a higher incidence of Fibro, many people with Fibro also have something like Sjogrens, even if they don't know it.
Plus it could be something else entirely as it was for Abbeystead.
Fibro may cause sensitive eyes and many Fibro medications can cause dry eyes, but Fibro itself doesn't attack the eyes in anyway.
So always get dry eyes checked out.
I have trouble with my eyelashes, the start prickling and then painful. The only way to relieve it is to pull them out so always end up with bald patches lol. Last optician I saw was useless said she could refer me to eye clinic but they would just pull them all out anyway, had no idea of cause. She was also confused by my deterioration in sight but did nothing other than order new glasses and 12 month checkup x
I saw my optician on Thursday told him about sore eyes and he put some coloured dye in then looked at my eyes and it showed a lot of dry patches so getting eye drops from GP.
I had really sore eyes and my sight deteriorate. Optician said veins behind eye show something wrong perhaps blood pressure but doctor was not interested. I always use piritonese spray everyday regardless of season. Has improved alot but still there mildly but tolerable
Good luck
Jeannie
Hi Gerry
My eyes are very much like yours, they are also very dry and when I blink its very painful as it feels like they have grit or sand in them, I also suffer from seasonal rhinitis (hayfever) so my GP prescribes a solution (Sodium Cromoglicate) which lessens the redness and lubricates the eyes and I use this all year round, it doesn't stop the hayfever but it helps during the other months, the only bad side is that the drops can sometime feel like they numb the eye when I put them in but they do help, these drops are presciption only so ask your doctor for advice. Dave
Hi, I've just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and during the last flare-up I had very itchy eyes continually, just like hay fever, also very itchy skin sometimes, particularly my forearms. I am fairly sure my fibromyalgia came to a head after a traumatic fall and have read quite a lot about the link between trauma (or viruses which can act as a abodily trauma) and many of the symptoms of fibro including sensitive itchy eyes. Don't know if that helps, but see the medics anyway.
