I tend to feel if you are able to take a new medication at night, its the best way as it mean it gets in your system and hopefully you sleep through any side effects.Hope that helps

Personally I would ring the pharmacy and ask their advice. They would be the best people to advise you when and how to take your new medication.

If your GP prescribed a med for you, please speak to them about when you should take it. They might have a specific reason for stating a time, so try there first. This should sort it out for you. Sometimes the timing is vital, the reason I say this is because I used to take my Amitriptyline 75mg at night and instead of making me sleepy at bedtime it spaced me out for a large part of the next day. I told my GP and was told to take it at 3pm and then I should be sleepy at a reasonable time for bed. This worked for me and I am not spaced out the following day any more. Hope this helps. Take care. :)

Hi LibertyZ

I too take 75mg of Amitriptyline, 3 yellow tablets. I have to take mine about 3 hours before I want to sleep or it would wake me up again and I would feel sleepy again for about 3 hours. I am sure its the yellow in the tablets that wakes me up from feeling sleepy. Some times I can not do this though, so I found that the other way I take then is to take them as I`m nodding off and just about to fall asleep.

I think we all tend to react differently with some meds Fibrograham. If I took my tablet (mine are white) at say midnight I would still be awake by 6am the next day and then when I got up I would be spaced out. It works well for me taking it mid afternoon now, I actually fall asleep which is a bit of a luxury for me. I've been an insomniac for many years. :)

I am as most people have cottoned on, a retired pharmacist and I was taking amitriptylline 75mg at night now reduced to 20mg at night because I am being treated now for aggressive prostrate cancer.

Anyway, as a pharmacist I can assure you it doesn't really matter when you take the dulcolax but night time is usually best so that you have a turn out in the morning. There is no problem taking it at the same time as the amitriptylline If necessary you can increase the dose and I myself with the IBS that goes with Fibro have often needed to take 4 at a time- can cause a bit of griping then!

Good luck and best wishes
