The answer is yes and no, you wont have to re-apply as such, but everyone on DLA will be called in to have an assessment. This is to be carried out by ATOS in the North and South and by Capita in the Midlands. From what I understand, these will be similar to the Work Capability Assessment, and are to assess the level of disability of the individual, you will then be awarded an amout for that level you reach. There is a major concern that it will mean most people will have their payments cut, so if you have a mobility car, you may have to give it back, but on the flip side, those with extreme disabilities could well have there awards increased. The change over is due to start with new claiments in the North, but is scheduled to be in place throughout the country by 2016. I volunteer for a disability organisation in the Midlands that offer information and advice to disabled people and I have this information in the "disability rights handbook 2012". I hope this helps.

Mark is right, it's not so much a re-apply as a reassessment . The only people who won't be assessed are the under 16's and the over 65's.

The descriptors are changing too , so it's worth bearing that in mind. Awards will be decided on a points system as with the WCA .

Hello to everyone, I want to share with you a very special website to help you with DLA?Benefits, benefitsandwork.co.uk/ Are you making a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claim or appeal? Or being transferred from Incapacity Benefit to ESA?

This site is a must to check out. I recommend anyone who is lost in the DLA/Benefits paperwork, to get the help you need, it has helped me fight a tribunal and get my award re-instated. There is a small annual subscription but worth every penny. Just follow their advise if you need help they are there for you. Or if you have a D.I.A.L office in your town they too have helped a great deal.
