Help! I am always feeling sleepy and feel drained of all energy which I attribute to my fibro. Any ideas on managing this situation?

I'm the same i'm afraid and unfortunatly don't have an answer for you. The pain can be coped with by medication but this constant feeling tired just doesn't go. I wake up more tired than when I went to sleep. Lets hope someone knows an answer to it . take care x

Thanks Dusky it helps to think that there others in the same boat. My OT taught me some energey conservation methods such as keeping a diary or timetable of when you wake up, how long it takes before you get worn out. The trick is never to overwork oneself but to make sure that you rest before overdoing things, My problem was not so bad then but now if I just have a cup of tea I fall asleep unless I stand up straight after that drink and get out of the house to get some fresh air. Try to avoid sitting down during tasks, finally sitting down only when it is time for you to do so. It is hard but it helps at times as I have learnt to pace myself. I am training myself at the moment but I get too tired so much that I fall asleep in a standing position.

my doctor toldme the reason i am always tired and have no energy is because the messages to the brain via the blood etc are not correct due to fibro and therefore i never get into the final sleep pattern when real rest is acheived.thus i am always tired. I was also told to try and make everything relaxed starting with the face muscles then head neck and so on and while i was doing this i have to take long breaths making sure my ribs expand fully when breathing in and deflate when breathing out. it is amazing how u find you are actually breathing wrong lol when i get this rightireally do sleep better hope it helps..also sleep when u need to nevermind the rest of the world your body knows what it needs they dont. soft butterflyhugzand melodious wing beats sent to ease your stress. petal

Hey Mamina, Gentle hugs,

It's only this past 10 months or so that the constant sleepiness and sleeping has taking my old bones over - and I've no choice but to sleep - I nod off anywhere and everywhere - It's so bad I hardly go out anywhere. I was given a CD by my Pain Therapist years ago when I was first diagnosed with the Fibro - It's a two part exercise CD and is the same type of relaxation that Dusky was told to do - starting at the head, face and neck, relaxing each of the muscles as you go, ending with the toes. The second part is all about breathing correctly - by the time the CD is finished, it's surprising how well it works - even after one session. Sadly, since moving house 3 years ago, the CD seems to have gotten lost - and why sleep is now my best friend. I'm an insomniac of 38 years not knowing what it was to sleep - now I do - but it's just not the refreshing kind of sleep I yearned so long for - and still yearn for. :'(

Love,

Carol xx

Hi Mamina,

I think you should see your GP about this, as sleeping through the daytime will be having adverse affect on getting any good restorative sleep at night.

Take a look at this link for help with sleep.

getselfhelp.co.uk/sleep.htm

Also, it is common to have an overlap between Fibro and CFS/ME and it may be a possible reason for the sleep symptoms you have.

Take a look at the NHS Choices link below, click on the tabs at the top, one gives you an overview and the other gives you loads of info if you click on the little info icons there are.

hope that helps a bit

happy hugs, kate :)
