Hi clay63,

I have not heard of any medical evidence that shows that Fibro makes you put on weight. However, I believe that eating as much as you used to whilst doing less because of the Fibro will, logically, tend to make you put on weight.

Also some of the medications that help in easing the symptoms of Fibro, include weight gain as a side effect.

The Fibro Action is a great place to use for referencing all sorts of info and below are two available articles that will tell you more.

Happy reading

hi well i dont think that is the case for evyone i think you have to take alot of things into condideration like the immobility the diffrerent meds we all take and our different diets .

i for one have actually lost over a stone i was only just over 8 stone anyway now i am 7 or jus touch over god knows how if you follow my blogs you will see what my diet is like lol

but like i said i domt think it will make you put on weight and everyones metabolism is different too love diddle x

I have put weight on. I used to be 12 stone and now I am 14 and a half. It's a good job i am nearly 6 foot tall. I think it is down to a mixture of the meds and the lack of mobility like diddle said. I try to eat healthily but there is bound to be some weight gain somewhere. Try not to worry too much about it. It is more important to find something that eases your pain and helps you get some sleep.

i agree with u all..

i am not very mobile apart from walking around downstairs in my house.. but....... i do eat alot of sweets... not in cakes.. but like jelly beans, toffees, fizzy sweets.. i would rather eat them than food... i know that doesnt help with my weight. but i have no appetite at all.....i never used to eat sweet things till i became ill with fibro... or is this an excuse lol

I have gone up two dress sizes and one wheelchair since finding I have FM! However I have been told one of the side effects of Lyrica is weight gain plus my biggest area of pain is in my hips so walking has been cut down dramatically.

It is rather depressing as I was just beginning to get into a fitness routine, was more able to get up three flights of stairs at work and not be breathless and looking forward to walking my puppy who was now able to walk a proper distance [bones weak in first 12 months] when my knees began to give me problems and my hips quickly followed. And thats been it!

Off work, nothing to do as many things cause more pain, depression hits and I hit the larder and fridge! So it all adds up to extra pounds, then the medication that controls the pain also adds the pounds and I can no longer fit into my wheelchair or clothes! {I only use the wheelchair for distance folks!]

Obviously because of our mobility issues we are all less active, I try to eat healthily but inevitably due to medication and a craving as bad as I was pregnant for certain things, we have to have some indulgences.

Soft hugs,

I agree with being inactive compared to before Fibro and also medications affecting peoples' weights. I have put on about two stone, I was very slim before. Thank goodness I am tall and can carry it reasonably well, but I'd love to be how I was before. I have started exercising again and feel better for it, time will tell whether I actually lose any weight, I hope so! I eat less than before too, so it's all very unfair. I think my metabolism has come to a grinding halt too! :) :)

I put weight on but I think its a combination of diabetes and fibro. I have also got water retention and it doesnt matter how little I eat or how often I exercise I can't get rid of the water or the weight. I am not on medication for fibro just blood pressure and diabetes meds.

I Like to thank you all for your input Its nice to see that I am not on my own. Fibro has affected my walking as my legs some times give way and the pain, but I have a puppy now and will be going out 3 times a day for a walk, I am lucky in some ways as I do not suffer with diabetes, but after reading Kraftyk8, I do think its a mobility issue, and some medication. But I like to wish everyone a gentle hug and hope things gt better. xxxx

I have lost weigh since christmas but have always been prone to losing weight quicker than l can put it on and have been told l was always under weight anyway(5ft 2" and was 8 stone and am now just over 7 stone) also, stress makes me lose weight and have just had Medical/Work capability Assessment and it WAS both stressful and painful.

Dr put me on Fluoxetine during my difficult divorce (I had been married almost 25 yrs and we went to court 3 times) I put on 4 stone in 18 months. Another GP confirmed it was the Fluoxetine and has now changed meds to Duloxetine which is weight neutral, still got the excess weight but a t least I haven't put any more on. It is so annoying that I am so fat through no fault of my own it really gets me down )-:
