I dont know what allodynia is? I have never heard of that one. hugs, kel xxx

Allodynia is pain, generally on the skin, caused by something that wouldn't normally cause pain. Many people with fibromyalgia report having this symptom. Examples of Allodynia are pain caused by mild pressure from clothing, a light touch, gentle massage, or sheets rubbing against the skin.

Pain caused by touch is called Tactile Allodynia, while pain caused by movement against the skin (i.e., the brush of clothing) is called Mechanical Allodynia. Temperature-related pain is called Thermal Allodynia.

With Fibromyalgia the entire central nervous system can becomes sensitized to a stimulus. This is a proposed mechanism for many of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, including the way the body amplifies pain signals.

So in a nutshell, some people with Fibromyalgia can find that their pain receptors are affected and this can make them extremely sensitive to heat, cold, touch, clothing etc. I know personally that all of these factors affect me whereas they didn't before my diagnosis. :)

Hi there,

I had never heard of this either, but it is something I will add to my long list of conditions! I have to cut labels out of clothes because they feel like barbed wire on my skin. Sometimes it gets so bad, especially in bed that I wear my nightie inside out as I can't bear the seams rubbing!

I always joke that it is my "Princess & the Pea Syndrome" !! Lol xx

hi i have never heard of this but i do get sensitive to toouch i cant say that clothes hurt my skin or sheets but def peoles touch and also i do dop things and have no grip really love to you diddle x

I haven't heard of this but I am exactly like that! If I wear jeans and having a bad day, pulling my jeans over my skin is agony.

Sometimes when my hubby and I are in bed and he just touches my arm,it's really sore to touch.

It can sometimes interfere with my 'personal life' shall I say?? lol

xx

Never heard of this before. Just looked it up and guess I may have it too! I now have another question to put to my doctor. the only name I had for this was myofacial pain. Its no fun is it? I have to wear pjs to bed cos the bed clothes make it a big prob settling. Thanks for putting up your question - I didn't know I had one!

Hi all,

I suffer with fibromyalgia and was recently told that the pain I feel in my feet and ankles and my upper torso is in fact Allodynia. It now explains why I feel so tender and sensitive in those parts, because Iam in so much pain even when I am touching these areas, and usually we can tolerate more pain if we inflict it on ourselves. Wearing a bra, tight fitting clothing or some shoes makes my body feel so compressed, as if things are really closing in on me. It has become so bad that I tend not to wear a bra, unless I really have to, and then I can't wait to take it off again.

I am on so many painkillers, and yet nothing has helped with the Allodynia, and I have no idea if these symptoms with improve, disappear, or if this is something else I now just have to put up with. The sad thing about it, i that I now dread someone coming toward me to give me a hug.:-(

Hi, I must have it as well I cannt stand my husband arms around me because it hurts and feels so heavy sometimes my throw hurt my toes when I sit down the back of my knees hurt against the chair and I must keep them raised I wear a jml bra and my husbands hairs on his body hurts me and feels like thousands of pins are sticking in me when we are in bed, socks hurts and many more things I could go on and on, but these are things you learn to live with unfortunately.
