Iwas at the pain clinic and have been asked to try Gabapentin instead of amitriptaline, not too sure if i want to change.
I have read the comments on hoe it has affected other peoples weight gain, ihave put on extra weight with lack off mobility, & the though of possibly more concerns me a bit.
Has anyone been better off having taken it? I amfeeling well out of sorts today over did it yesterday as getting out for a day i over did it, silly me think i should learn from previous experience!!!
Hope all are having a good day, take care soft hugs luv Mary.xxx.

sorry, just a quickie as I'm working but I take Gabapentin and I jokingly sayI blame it for putting weight on but the fact is, I eat biscuits and other rubbish all day rather than 'good food'.
I only take it at night because it made me sleepy during the day and i work but I have found I sleep so very much better.
I have really bad RLS and couldn't sleep which made matters worse for me but the Gapapentin really has worked but that's just me, we're all different of course.
Have you looked at the questions and answers about Gabapentin on here?
Hope you feel better soon and don't over do it! It's naughty!!!
I called gabapentin my wonder drug. I honestly dont know how i would get through the day without it.
It helps so much with the pain, and it gives me a boost in the morning and at tea time and then helps me sleep as well as amitriplyn at night.
Why have they taken you off amitriplyn? Do you know?
I have put weight on but like sue says, i like my biscuits and cakes too and i do less walking and chores around the house now as i need to rest after i do.
Hi Sue thanks for your very quick reply. I also suffer very badly rls & i was prescribed with ropinerole (ardatrel) for it, it also makes me sleep better.
It would be nice to think i could take just 1 tablet for the 2 conditions, i have lookedat the q & a on here, and appreciate we are all diffrent, must confess i eat reasonably healthy...although the odd biscuit or cake seems to appear on my plate! oops well i was taught not to waste food thats my excuse...tee hee.
I promise i wil try & be good....take care soft hugs mary xxx.
I take Ropinirole too I took that on its own for a while for the RLS and then it stopped working as well as it was which is why I was put on the Gabapentin to take with it. The 2 really work for me - at the moment.
You're very good if the odd biscuit seems to appear on your plate lol. I daren't count how many odd biscuits jump out of the tin at me during a day.
I have'nt been to dr yet to see if he is going to change my meds so don't know if he will take me off amitriptaline yet ,will let you know as i have appt next week.
I too am not as mobile and have to rest accordingly...i get carried away sometimes, so will have to try listening to my body!! It is a pj day for me today,
thanks for your reply will keep you up to date if it works out to be the wonder drug for me.
soft hugs luv maryxxx.
To be honest with you i have been lots of tablets but all of them say weight gain as one of the downsides but i have lost stone and haldf i was only eight half stone anyway but am jus touch over 7 now so i dont always think that it is true for everyone so it may be worth giving them a try and also make sure you eat healthly too then if you put on am awful lot of weight you will know it is the tablets but if you eat cakes etc like me lol then you put on weight then you will know why lol good luck anyway love diddle x
I've had gabapentin for years now. I was given it along with ropinirole and tramadol for rls, which work great for the rls but don't do a thing for the pain from fibromyalgia or hypmermobility syndrome - I might as well be eating smarties when it comes to meds and pain relief. On a good note, I haven't put on any weight. Everyone is different, so I'd try them. You never know they might work for you
