If you find that it makes you feel drugged up during the day ask for Nortiptaline. Its a more refined drug so it doesnt have all the dopey side effects.

Amatriptaline made me feel drunk so i swapped over and am fine.

Hi lollipop,

I felt the same as you at first on amitriptyline, bare with it, it does get better and you become used to it, I wouldn't be without it now, it won't stop the pain in the daytime its more to help with sleep/restless leg and nerve pain, if your not getting better sleep from it after 2 weeks or so ask your gp to up the dose, I've slept a million times better since I stared on it and it's helped with nerve pain and restless leg, I'm about to ask my gp to up my dose as my body is getting used to it now, how much do you take?

Hi lollipop

I am also on amatriptyline, the rhumatologist gave me a tip, if you are up early say 7 am take your tablets about 10 or 12 hours earlier so you won't be groggy nxt morning.

If i want a lie in i will take my tablets later, only thing is it makes you groggy nxt day, but if you have'nt got work you can doze on and of all day, just thought i would give you this little piece of usless info!! lol ;) xx anne

Hi again lollypop,

I'm on 50mg at night and have had no problems at all with it, I'm sure you'll feel much better as the dose goes up, I love the stuff, I didn't sleep for a long time before I started taking it, my guess is he'll up your dose next time you see him, he's just testing to make sure you ok on it, I started off with 25mg at night and my doc upped it to 50mg some time later, you'll be fine once you get the correct dosage.

Good luck

Irene x
