Seeking Advice: Best Pillow for Neck and Shoulder Pain?

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing persistent neck and shoulder discomfort, especially upon waking. Despite trying various remedies like heat therapy and gentle stretches, the relief is temporary. I'm beginning to suspect that my current pillow might be contributing to the issue.

I've read that using a neck and shoulder pillow medcline.com/products/shoul... can provide better support and alignment during sleep. These pillows are designed to maintain the natural curve of the cervical spine, potentially reducing strain and improving sleep quality. Given the wealth of information and personal experiences shared on HealthUnlocked, I thought this would be the perfect place to seek recommendations.

Has anyone here found a particular type of pillow that alleviated their neck and shoulder pain? I'm especially interested in hearing about different materials, shapes, and firmness levels that have worked for others. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes, I have suffered with this a long time , I have spent a small fortune on different pillows and now better since having a soft ,like down, pillow, I use a magnesium and lavender cream on my neck and shoulders before I go to bed, which helps ( I got this from amazon, same as the pillow). They also do a heated neck and shoulder pad, heat helps me with the pain. Hope you find something that works for you .

I recently found a front sleeper pillow on Amazon (before I started boycotting the site) and it has totally transformed my sleep. It’s pillow sized, slips in a pillow case and has a memory foam centre. Would recommend for a front sleeper!

Hi. Yes, same here, a side sleeper and shoulder discomfort. I recently bought a firm duck/goose down pillow from M&S - best night's sleep in a long time. I didn't realise the posistion we favour to sleep determines what type of pillow to buy. I don't like fibre filled or memory foam and much prefer natural fibres and fillings.

Hi. I have a soft Tempur pillow which is the best I have found to help a little and not aggravate further my neck and shoulder pain. Good luck.

I had a Tempur wave pillow for several years but it started to get a bit soft and wasn't giving adequate support when lying on my side. So I've changed to a Groove adjustable pillow designed for side & back sleepers. It took a bit of getting used to but I wouldn't be without it now.

Hello, I've been using contour type pillows for years now, generally memory foam, due to often dreadful neck and shoulder pain. When I replaced my previous pillow I tried a British company, which also manufacturers in the UK, and which I was new to: Putnams. I called for some advice and bought their Putnams pillow. It isn't memory foam (although they do offer a memory foam version) and it suits me perfectly. The website is under their name if you do an internet search but be aware that their prices reflect the fact that they manufacture in the UK and they pay UK wages. However I am really happy with my pillow, and there was no off gassing, which can be a major issue for me.Hope you find something that works for you, wherever you decide to buy.
