Hi has anyone been turned down for a blue badge & successfully challenged it? I have fibromyalgia osteoarthritis & stenosis of the spine. I’m having physio regularly. They’ve acknowledged that I have some difficulties due to my health issues re my mobility but apparently I don’t meet the criteria even though I walk with a stick??
I’m so angry as I’ve never asked for anything & I feel it would validate my problems. Pain can’t be seen & the young man assessing me seemed to sympathise. It’s humiliating walking round a public space as well.
Thanks for letting me vent 🤗 xx

Hi there, I’m a fellow fibro sufferer but i’m also a nurse and assess people for the PIP benefit for my job. Although it is not linked to PIP, several people have told me you don’t get a blue badge if you don’t qualify for the mobility component of PIP which in basic terms means that you would be unable to walk 50 metres without stopping. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter that you require a stick.
If you can get your doctor (or if your seen by a specialist doctor) to write a letter of support, you should be able to appeal the decision.
My late husband was turned down. He had a terminal cancer diagnosis and had suffered 2 heart attacks and had GCA/PMR. The woman assessing him said they were cutting down on the number of badges issued. How they could say this baffled me - either you meet the criteria or you don’t. We didn’t bother appealing as he didn’t have much time left.
As Aching-Annie says try and get letters in support from medics, physio, anyone who can confirm you struggle on a daily basis. Good luck.
