Problems with my GP

Hi! I hope they are well

First of all, I would like to clarify that my English is not good enough to open poorly written words or sentences.

I write because I feel frustrated and misunderstood by my GP, I tell you a little about my case to see if you can guide me:

* 5 years with body pain.

* 7 MRIs.

* Various blood tests.

* Problems falling asleep and consequently I am tired all the time.

* Irritable bowel syndrome.

* Night cramps.

* Appointment with rheumatologist and referral for a second opinion.

* My older sister suffers from fibromyalgia.

* Physiotherapy and GYM.

* 1 year in the pain clinic.

GP says that there is no test or examination that can determine that I have the disease and sends me home. I am physically and mentally exhausted with the issue of my pain.

What can I do to get him to pay attention to me and be able to resolve my situation. SOS...

Thank you all.

While there is no blood test etc, the royal college of physicians website has diagnostic guideline documents available. These assist health professionals in being able to make a diagnosisrcp.ac.uk/improving-care/re...

Hi! Taking advantage of my insomnia and frustration, I wrote this complaint that I sent by email to my GP and Local Integrated care Board, I leave it here in case someone else can find it useful:

Formal Complaint Regarding Inadequate Medical Care:

Dear XXXXXX XXXXX XXXX Team,

Cc Local Integrated care Board

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to formally complain about the care I have received from Dr. XXXX XXXXX , GMC reference no: XXXXX. Despite several months of attending appointments, both by phone and in person, and following various referrals, my health problems and persistent pain have not been adequately addressed.

My primary concern is the apparent lack of empathy and indifference shown by Dr. XXXXXXXX towards my condition. I have been suffering from widespread body pain, fatigue, sleep issues, nocturnal cramps, numbness, irritable bowel syndrome, and sleep loss for the past 5 years, significantly impacting my daily life. Furthermore, both my older sister and my mother also suffer from this condition. It is also suggested that some people are more likely to develop this condition due to inherited genes from their parents, which underscores the need for appropriate and empathetic care. Despite clearly communicating my symptoms and the extent of my discomfort, I have found Dr. XXXXXXXX’s response to be dismissive and lacking the understanding and compassion essential for effective medical care.

Moreover, it is illogical to me that, having an NHS number, there is no access to my previous records with other GPs, which has further complicated the continuity and effectiveness of my treatment.

I have undergone a lengthy and frustrating process to seek relief for my pain, including 6 MRIs, appointments with rheumatologists, physiotherapists, pain clinics, neurologists, gym sessions, and a consultation with a urologist, during which the following tests were performed: flexible cystoscopy, testicular ultrasound, and urinary tract ultrasound. Additionally, I have had the following laboratory tests:

- Full Blood Count (FBC)

- Liver Function Test

- Rheumatoid Factor

- Renal Profile

- Bone Profile

- Serum C-Reactive Protein Level

- Biochemical Test

- GFR Calculated (abbreviated MDRD)

- Plasma Viscosity

However, I have found no solution or serious attempt to find a way to alleviate my pain. After doing gym exercises with the physiotherapist, I was admitted to North Manchester Hospital three months later due to loss of feces and semen caused by the exercises.

Over the years, I have had to personally research my symptoms and how to manage them. I have helped myself more than my doctor has. I have even received more guidance from Fibromyalgia Action UK than from Dr. XXXXXXXX. They have provided me with more support and guidance on managing my symptoms effectively.

The following points summarize my specific concerns:

1. Indifference and lack of empathy: During our consultations, Dr. XXXXXXXX has shown a troubling lack of empathy. This attitude is particularly alarming given the chronic nature of my symptoms and the severe pain I endure.

2. Inadequate medical care: Despite multiple visits, my health issues remain unresolved. The treatments and advice provided have not alleviated my symptoms, nor has there been a proactive approach to explore alternative solutions or referrals that could help manage my condition.

3. Rushed and insufficient consultations: On several occasions, I felt that my appointments were rushed and that my concerns were not fully addressed. This has led to a feeling of not being heard and being neglected in my quest for relief from my chronic pain.

According to the Royal College of Physicians, the diagnosis of fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by chronic, widespread pain along with fatigue, sleep disturbances, difficulty concentrating, and other symptoms such as cramps and gastrointestinal problems. These symptoms can be debilitating and severely affect a patient’s quality of life. It is crucial that doctors address this condition with understanding and a comprehensive management strategy. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. XXXXXXXX has been far from satisfactory and has left me feeling frustrated and neglected.

I request a thorough review of how my case has been managed by Dr. XXXXXXXX and a prompt resolution of these issues. Specifically, I seek:

- A formal acknowledgment of my complaint.

- An explanation for the lack of empathy and care during my consultations.

- Details on the steps that will be taken to prevent such issues from recurring.

- Consideration of alternative treatment plans or referrals to specialists who might better manage my condition.

Additionally, I want to make it clear that I do not wish to be seen by Dr. XXXXXXXX in the future. For more information on my condition and its management, you can consult the Royal College of Physicians page and the NHS page

Thank you for your prompt attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Name: XXXXXXX XXXXX

DOB: 18/XX/XXXX

NHS number: 720 XXX XXXX

Hi

You are hurting and I can empathise; pain is wearing frustrating and action limiting.

I know GP service is under strain ftorres18 in UK.( but are you in Spain?) Sometimes it is worth asking for recommendations of a Rheumatologist in your area on this site. Many of us have found that once you get a name, you can specifically ask to be referred to that consultant. If there is a local support group where you live go along. If not why not form one?

Hi! Thanks for your comment! I live in Manchester, the NHS rheumatologist referred me for a second medical opinion. I don't have a support group nearby and I don't feel able to form one! Kind regards! 👍

Welcome to our Fibro forum,

Can I first say? for someone who is saying their English is not good enough?

You write better than some English person? Wonderful use of the language and putting your letter to get your point across,

You didn't say where you are in the world (can see you are from Spain)

I don't know anything at all about other medical service,

If you feel you are not receiving the medical care you need,Then I would have first spoke with the doctor who has treating you (or not) and explain your worries,

The tests you have been going for seem perfectly reasonable, It means your Doctor is making sure all other possible illnesses have been ruled out first before making a diagnoses, As a life changing illness you must understand how your Doctor feels each time a negative test comes in?

So now he needs to keep investigating your illness and how to treat you,

Why not say if you and doc can start testing which medication will start to deal with your pain, After all that is how Fibro is treated, It must be awkward for you after you have made a complaint

I hope you get the answers you are waiting for and best of wishes to you,
