hi all, I’m on the way to the site after 20 years of my NHS job have been dismissed on medical grounds due to the main one being fibromyalgia. I have applied for my NHS pension. I’m worried what what I’ve been reading that quite a lot of people that suffer with this debilitating illness, get knockback on their pension, my occupational health report has stated I’m bedbound most days. I need help with daily living and that I also have chronic migraine where I collapse five times a month angina and Reynards and also post-traumatic stress. I’ve read on other peoples post that a lot of fibromyalgia sufferers get knocked back on the on the pension because the medical team say their mental health can improve. Has anyone been successful in gaining the NHS pension due to fibromyalgia thanks in advance because of all this is really stressing me out

Hi 10 x10, I too was dismissed on medical grounds from my job with the NHS. My decision to go down this route. Your profile doesn't say how old you are. I was almost 65 at the time, got my nhs pension and topped up with esa till my official retirement age (66). If you were part of the old nhs pension, pre 2018, you can get your pension from 55 without it being early retirement. Not sure how it works if you are younger, also I live in Scotland and don't know where you live. Hope it goes well for you.

I’m 54 and part of the 1995 pension and also the 2015 one x

Hi I am sure you should get it, I got my Local authority enhanced pension, I think they have similar criteria, do you have a copy the policy ? I wish you good luck I know what stress you’re going through, I really think the process should be over hauled as it’s stressful enough not being able to continue in your job xx

And yes I agree it’s does need a massive overhaul

The stress is horrendous and makes most people’s illnesses much worse

Yes but it was back in c 1997, I had backing from GP which helped. I think it depended on Management at the time of retirement on grounds of ill-health.

Hi 10x10I'm in a similar position, I stopped work 17 months ago, through ill health, worked 38 years, it didn't even cross my mind to claim my pension, when I turned 55 6 month's ago I applied for my superanuation pension and failed to get in on health grounds I'm appealing the decision, I to have fibromyalgia, copd heart issues after catching covid arthritis throughout my body, slipped disc in my neck they said they don't know enough about fibromyalgia or long covid, I qualified for pip, didn't get a phone call or meeting they looked at my medical records, I'm contemplating going to a disability lawyer as they've stated I still have 10 years before retirement, good luck with your claim, keep fighting. X

The NHS pension scheme offers various tiers of ill-health pension, so you could get Tier 2 with a service addition, (so more pension) if they think you can't do any job at all, as opposed to your old job which would be tier one without a service addition.

Reports will definitely be needed so you need to get on to that straightaway. If you have claimed any benefits like ESA or the Universal Credit equivalent, or PIP, you need to get hold of the disability assessor's report (not the letter from DWP about the report). Write to DWP using signed for post to request a copy. You may need proof that you asked for it, if they fail to post it to you. If you have a Blue Badge, that is further evidence as is a disabled Council Tax reduction from your Local Authority and a disabled bus pass. Copies of letters from any hospital doctors who have treated you will also help. You are entitled to request a copy of all medical records held by each NHS organisation and from any private facilities you may have used.

You will need to get a much information together as possible and get help and support from your Trades Union or professional body. If you can get a medical professional to say that you will never work again in any capacity, that may well clinch it.

I have sent of for it now and didn’t realise about the Dwp letter or blue badge

I have both I should of sent them off with the form

Last I heard the forms were with the insurance and waiting in a response from them
