Medical retirement

Hi. Well went to see occy health doctor this morning which I must admit is not a pleasant experience as it's made me realise I truly am unable to continue working and doubt I ever will. I'm 5 years away from state pension since government changed the dates. I have free bus pass. Free med and free eye and dental check up because I looked upon as a pensioner but cannot get my state pension till i 66 yrs. Occy health doc was amazed I was still working and told me to go gp tomorrow and get signed off work. I work within the NHS and he had concerns for patient safety because of my health and also the fact I taking and function quite well on tramadol. It's a controlled drug that's locked away on the ward yet I got my own packet in my bag. He told me that he getting in touch with consultants and gp to inform them that he recommends medical retirement. Gotta get in touch with my NHS pension as the main decision of retirement is down to them.

Not sure how long the process takes though the way occy health doctor was talking I don't think it takes that long.

I thought he would have examined me but it was just questions about how my health effects my working day.

Will let you all no when I hear any more news.

Stay warm cos it's very cold today.

Very interested in your post and wish you luck with paper work etc!

As to whether retirement age will now stay at 66 is anyone's guess...I was in the last group who retired at 62 under the old rules but I am still in a very grey area.

Much has been written about medical pensions and private providers. I presume you will get your pension through the NHS?

Sounds like Occy Health were on your side , which is good . I have not had the same support . I hope the path to a well earned retirement is a smooth one :)

I also worked within the nhs and couldn’t continue to work. I basically had my contract terminated on the grounds of ill health. My Occy health department started the process of contacting nhs pensions and that was 3 weeks ago.

The whole process for me is quite long and stressful especially as I haven’t got a clue as to what’s going on etc.

I’ll keep everything crossed for you Hun. Take care, stay warm and gentle hugs. Hope you’re pain eases too xx

Good luck hun, I hope the process doesn't get too long-winded and you are granted your full NHS Pension on medical grounds. xxx

Hi. I think it depends on your council. Some areas don't offer it until you are at state pension age but lucky enough my city offers them at 60yrs.

Goes to show how little the doc knows about how tramadol works in some patients
