Over past few weeks doc trying to get me to take statins .This just made my fibro very much worse.Returned to docs he changed statin,with introducing it very slowly,still the same outcome.Now having read about statins and fibro and the leaflet in the statin packet ,some people with muscle problems,fibro etc cannot take statins .So it’s just going to have to be diet

the first 4 medications I tried for statins in has a really bad reaction too just in how they made me feel I landed up on Ezetimbe and after a week it settled and so far so good. It does take time with changes to food as well 🥰

I had the same problem. My GP prescribed Ezetimibe which has kept my cholesterol under control with no adverse effects on my fibro. I believe it is an alternative type of med to a statin. x

My doctor tried to persuade me to go on Statins about 10 years ago and I refused.

Two years ago I had my quadruple heart bypass and 1.5 years ago three of the four grafts failed and there is nothing, surgically, they can do for me.

I've still got fibromyalgia but, by not listening to the doctor, I'm going to have it for a much shorter time.

There are many things that can exacerbate the fibro symptons but I wish I'd put endured the life saving one.

my father in law also did not take the statins his doctor prescribed, he went on to have 2 separate strokes which severely curtailed his life.

Doctors everywhere are pushing statins. I had the same problem with my doctor and found that statins really didn't agree with me and maybe put on weight. Is like the nhs of got some kind of deal with the statin provider to keep pushing their pills. I healthy diet is the best way to control coleslaw

Statins can keep you alive….even if you don’t have fibro. There are many different types….they really are not the latest nhs fad.

I have RA….& Years ago, before I was diagnosed with RA I was prescribed statins …as were various family members ….we all had similar inherited hypertension & cholesterol problems.

My GP was convinced I should take statins & eventually referred me to a consultant cardiologist- as all those she prescribed did not suit me. That doctor put me on the right meds…& probably saved my life, as here I am still here going strong at 82-sadly my family members who refused to take those statins they were offered are no longer with us.

Maybe if you are struggling being prescribed only by a GP…you could ask for a referral to a consultant?

I was offered statins after high cholesterol was diagnosed. Instead I took a sterol capsule every day plus a dessertspoon of extra virgin olive oil. My cholesterol was back to normal after three months. I continue with this as a daily routine.

Hi, I take Benecol in spread, yog drinks and yogurts. Cholesterol came down to higher end of normal range. Really hoping my next test is good as don't want statins yet. I'm 64 .

Don't give up on the medication options. High Cholesterol is a cardio-vascular risk for heart and stroke issues later in life. There are different statins that your GP can try with you as well as other drugs that lower cholesterol and are not statins. You can also try products with plant sterols in them like Benecol that lower cholesterol or plant sterol tablets that are available from the same companies that supply vitamin tablets.

I was on Fluvastatin after trying several statins years before, and then the NHS suddenly switched me to Simvastatin as it is cheaper, with just a letter to explain. Within 5 days I was bed-ridden, so bad were the cramps and pain. I was switched back to Fluvastatin pretty fast. My GP said the reaction I had was unusual and across all of England, the NHS saved millions switching people to the cheaper drug.
