I'm never quite sure if my symptoms have improved or I just manage them better now - or maybe a combination of both
Whatever, I am much better now than I was at the beginning of my fibromyalgia journey (had it for 30 years)
Agree with Hazel_Angelstar on this one. It's hard in the beginning when we are getting used to the person we have become. We then go through the trial and error stage, working out what works for us and what doesn't. We then go through the acceptance stage where we realise our limitations and get on with life.
Does it get better or are we better adjusted to deal with it? Chicken and egg.
Like Dinke and Hazel my fibromyalgia experience has improved greatly. I have many other conditions and I would describe fibro as the least troubling one. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago too. A lot of the relief comes from acceptance and familiarity of course. I went through the trial but mainly error of medication and eventually settled on not taking anything for it as nothing worked enough to make the side effects worth it. I also got heavily into exercise, which ultimately transformed my mood, the way I saw myself and my strength and fitness.
It takes a while to adjust but you can form a life less defined by fibromyalgia.

Yes, I have generally improved. I gave up working for others and started working as a self employed cleaner and gardener. I slowly built up my hours each week and am now generally a lot fitter and stronger as I can pace myself and I decide how many hours I work a week. I also enjoy the social aspect, it's not glamorous but I have some lovely appreciative clients who understand my fibro restrictions. I do have some flare-ups and have had to learn to say "No" when people ask me to do too much. I'm definitely better than I was a few years ago when I could barely move I was in so much pain.
My symptoms have improved since I changed the drugs I had been on for many years. The side effects were making my illness worse. I had to manged my illnesses other ways. Research into vitamins for Fibromyalgia and using a ten machine and Stretching exercises everyday and changed my diet to support my Inflammatory issues . Went on the pain clinic course which has changed my mindset about my pain levels and other symptoms. Learned to listen to my body . How to balance out my energy levels and to rest when required. Increased my movements through out the day making sure I move every hour. Messaging my legs and arms with warm oil have also relaxed my muscles more.
I have just started exercising on building up strength in my legs and arms. My mobility has been very affected by Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis however since moving exercises on my legs and back I am walking better. Non of these Activities are painless which mean at times its uncomfortable 😐 however my Determination to hold on to my lifestyle and mobility pushes me to carry on. My family has noticed a big change in me. I have lost weight, and my mindset has improved by understanding the bigger picture of Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis. My water intake throughout the day has improved which does help your body. I am not saying my
Experience will work for everyone but these changes have improved my life. I now only take one painkiller drug when needed where I use to be on a mixture of four different pain killers a day.
The biggest reward for me is to have more control over what my body has to put up with. I will not let this illness take hold of Me .
hi Arlene
Can’t say my symptoms have got better but level of pain, fatigue etc does vary and I think with time you’re able to develop your own set of coping strategies through trial and error of what helps and what doesn’t. Hope that makes sense ? Hope you’re not feeling too bad today 🙏🙏
I think fibro is a condition that doesn’t improve over time as such. But as others have said my experience of coping has certainly improved over time. When you know your own limits and what helps then life becomes easier. Giving up full time work was a great help to me, getting PIP and then a blue badge, stopping all pain killers, slowing down in general, eating more healthy food, knowing when to say no to things etc. It all contributes
My God,I wish I were in the group of finding exercises that don't leave me totally done for,I have a medication review coming up so I'll see how that goes, I cant have more Tramadol since I'm on a really high dose same for amertyptaline (sorry cant spell) and dihydrocodiene (still cant spell) these are my main pain killers and Istill have no break through, There are many that have found the right medicine or herbal choice
I think it's just trial and error and the right thing for you,
Take care
