feet and hands

Hi everyone hope today is a good day .

A couple of years ago I started having pins and needles in my hands and feet . I was told it was part of my fibromyalgia I’m not sure .Since then my hands have become very painful hot and swollen which is a nightmare. I have some exercises that help a bit but wear compression gloves to help with swelling . Now my feet have started to get worse and I’m panicking that they will get like my hands . Has anyone had similar issues ? Or any advice at all . Is this fibromyalgia or something else ?? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there, not part of any fibro ive ever heard of. I would definitely go back to your surgery and get a second opinion.

Hi I have just googled and found this,

People with fibromyalgia may have feelings of numbness and tingling in their hands, arms, feet, legs or sometimes in their face. These feelings can suggest other disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, neuritis or even multiple sclerosis.

Good morning, like I have posted manytimes. If you google almost any illness with fibro it would show some kind of connection. Try heartattack and fibro for example?

This is why I always say if in doubt get it checked out.

Peripheral neuropathy is a more coman cause for what the poster may be experiencing imo.

I've had pins and needles in hands and feet for years, over the years when I've mentioned it to doctors they blame Fibro, B12 deficiency ( I have jabs every 2 months) and for the past three years underactive thyoid.

Mine isn't painful or swollen, just annoying. Its more noticeable in my feet. I've never gotten to the bottom of it and now just accept its part and parcel of the joys of being me 🤣

This crazy journey with our health we go on seems to have more unanswered questions than answers . Thanks for reply xxxx

Yes I’m the same. Never got to the bottom of it either despite telling my GP and neurologist

Hi, I’ve always had this too. Sometimes it’s bad, sometimes not. Sometimes an area of my foot will swell and become painful and my hands can become numb and really painful (worse in cold and wet weather) are you always dropping things too? It’s annoying isn’t it? I’ve put it down to fibro but it never hurts to see if anything else going on?

I am the same with pins and needles but no swelling. Swelling is a sign of rheumatoid i believe sk maybe medication could help you but start by slowing down and pacing yourself overdoing things can be a huge trigger. Heat helps me with my ailments but everyone is different it's trial and error to find what suits you I am afraid. I do use a tens machine when in a flare up I find it helps a lot I would be contacting tour consultant again and explaining your new symptoms and going from there good luck 🤞

Hey there, I get this too with my hands and feet. My hands are awful especially in the mornings, compression gloves are ok but I can’t type in them lol. Warm water helps so I have showers every morning to ease my body. My feet are the same but as I have plantar fasciitis I put it down to this. I get swollen too but as I’ve put it down to fibro, it didn’t occur to me to be anything else, id be interested to know if you investigate further if it’s not. Take care

Have the same thing in hands and feet. And it's getting worse. Been dealing with Fibro for years, but I think my problem is related to Diabetes.

Is it chilblains? I get both Raynauds and chilblains, very hard to predict when chilblains cone as their relationship with temperature changes seems complex?

Hi katiejay, what you are describing sounds more like peripheral neuropathy than fibro imo. peripheral neuropathy symptms include pain, numbness, tingling and weakness in your hands, arms or feet.

Hi do you have Diabetes. I'm asking because I have both Fibromyalgia and Diabetes I get a horrible stabbing sensation in my feet and very slightly in my hands and swelling in my feet. With me this is caused by Diabetes, Neuropathy and circulation.

No I don’t have diabetes . That must be really hard having both . I find anything I have now they just say it’s the fibro and this time definitely isn’t doesn’t feel like it is . Thanks so much .

Yes, this does happen to me . I push my GP to get tested on my hand arms.legs feet. This was done by electros' nerves tests, which identified the sensation of the nerve end feeling. My hands were carpal tunnel syndrome, which are going to be operation in the next few months as they are bad . They told me my feet pain was due to nerves ends and to where more supportive shoes with added support of the insoles. Which has helped. Yours could be different. However, I think talking to your GP and requesting some tests will be beneficial to you and your forthcoming treatment.

To many doctors, blame fibromyalgia when there could be other things going on . You are right to question this and get some tests done. Good luck

Hi Katiejay, there is a simple test you can do yourself to test for carpal tunnel. Just Google physio test for carpal tunnel and it should show you how to do it. It's exactly the same as they do at the physio. But definitely push your GP, it does sound like some kind of nerve involvement going on. Also ask for full bloods, particularly your B12 & VitD & inflammation (ESR) I think it is but could wrong, fuzzy head today. Let us know how you get on 😊

Hi everyone, it’s so nice of you all to contribute . I have a phone consultation in a couple of weeks and see how I go on . Will definitely ask what they think is causing it , probably won’t get to the bottom of it . Drs etc don’t realise that we live with all this pain etc 24/7 and it takes over our complete life . I am on painkillers , antidepressants . Use hot and cold treatments my tens machine sometimes all in a very short time but have very limited help from them . I have had tests for carpal tunnel but they said it wasn’t that . When I worked I did suffer from plantar fasciitis but this is a completely different pain in my feet . The last time I saw my rheumatologist he did say I was loosing muscle mass in my hands but my feet weren’t a problem then . Thanks again everyone keep your chin up I know it’s not easy .

Hi ... I don't get pins & needles very often. I get a lot of numbness but that's down to Raynaud's. The only thing I can think of just now is diabetes.... might be worth getting your bloods checked out anyway. Take care .

Hi katiejay I've had the same problem with my hands and feet being cold all the time and wear compression gloves too. I have some for my feet which are like trainer socks. I also have fybromyalgia and my doctor said it can be connected to it, but more of a circulation problem. Its painful isn't it? The only test for it is to put your hands in warm water for awhile to see if theres any colour change, and do finger exercises the same for your feet in a bowl of water. It can be Raynauds disease. More information online. Stay well hun x
