Hi there, yes he can get the car tax. And no he is not suppose to drive the car for personal use.

To be eligible for disability road tax exemption, the vehicle must be registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name. The vehicle must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs, so nominated drivers can’t drive the car for personal use.

The one thing hes not allowed to do is use the disabled parking badge when you are not with him. You will have to ring up and apply for the blue badge they are not sent automatically and it will cost you £10.

Hi, Muggings4 let me amend my answer.

To be eligible for disability road tax exemption, the vehicle must be registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name. The vehicle must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs, so nominated drivers can’t drive the car for personal use.

No one gets free insurance no matter who's car it is as far as I know. That would be great free tax and insurance I wish lol

Motability scheme gives you free tax and free insurance .. though your paying for car out of your pip so is it really free lol 😂 -but have you thought about looking into the Motability scheme

Hi there, yes I forgot its all paid for if you use the mobility scheme.

Sadley we read so much about people losing their cars due to getting their PIP lowered or taken away altogether. Not something I personally would consider to be honest xx

Good morning so many do use the tax reduction and forget that the car is taxed as a disability car with restrictions on its use. My last car was taxed at £250 per year so I took advantage of the free tax now my new car tax is £20 per year I tax it myself and my daughters can use it for any usage under insuranced insurance liability. As for personal use in a mobility car this can be a very grey area it’s supposed to be for the benefit of the claimant, so if the husband uses the mobility car for his hobbies fishing the claimant his wife is benefiting knowing he is getting rest bite form his caring duties and she is fine with it. Just a thought after talking with some who do this.

The first time you apply for the tax you need to go to a post office with your pip confirmation letter, and log book. If it still has more than a month to go before its supposed to be renewed you (your husband) will get a refund for all full months its already been rated for. Then next year when the tax is due to be renewed again you can do it online

Yes advice is correct, no free insurance, I'm afraid.

But as said must be registered keeper and he may nominate up to three other drivers on the policy. (Mine allows 4 drivers on a normal policy anyway) YES, the keeper can drive, the NOMINATED DRIVERS can also drive, BUT MAY be alone as long as its for the Disabled drivers needs. Collecting prescriptions, hospital pick up and drop off's, inother words NOT for their personal use. The Blue badge is not automatic, since they have different rules. (Why I don't know, but they do.) In applying for the first one its £10 plus your best "Mug shot" like a passport photo and takes about 10 days, after filling out the correct forms and receipt of the £10. The people in Cardiff are great, and if having problems filling out the form they will help.

MY OPINION

I find it strange that you have a 10 YEAR Decision? as this would be given to some one who needs "extra" help to get there lives to a routine of managing their treatment with out the worry of finances, as a regular payment with the help of your wife will give you some normality to fix you.

Good result.

If I buy, register and insure a car and apply for the tax exemption, can my partner borrow and drive my car to and from his work if he insurance allows him to drive any car? Or

Does MY tax exemption stipulate that the car with the exemption is only used by me and for me and cannot be borrowed by my partner to use at all?

Thanks

It worried me so much about these PIP reviews when so many people get it taken away. Especially when they have been in receipt of PIP for life long conditions.....what changes ? if it's a life long condition, they awarded full pip for years ..how can they now change their minds ? Surely they should be made to continue based on previous awards .

It's so stressful for people. I'm just happy to hear a happy result for a change . Well done x
