threadworm fibromyalgia link?

Morning all,

I’ve recently been diagnosed with fibro and even more recently been researching if there is a link between it and thread worm as 5yrs ago I had threadworm then the other night I’ve realised they are back so was wondering if anyone else has found a link as my fibro flares have been so much worse lately. The research I’ve found seems to suggest so as threadworm causes an autoimmune response and fibro is an autoimmune condition.

thanks for reading and replying if anyone else has linked the two n

Fibro is not an autoimmune condition by any standard definition and recent research only suggests a possible link if at all. Never heard a connection with fibro.

Brief reading seems to suggest it is not conclusive with the parasitic connection to autoimmune.

Fibromyalgia likely the result of autoimmune problems. King's College London July 1, 2021. But not yet fully recognised by some scientists.

Thank you I thought I’d read somewhere that it was possibly an autoimmune condition

And not proven by those scientists yet. Also the inference of auto immune tendencies does not mean it is an auto immune condition. Still some ways to go and await follow-ups from Anderson et al.

Colleration is not proof. Bu then again scientists are known as much for new breakthroughs as getting it wrong in the first place! So as their guess about fibro is about as good as anyone else - I think suffers should be allowed their opinion of their condition - they have as much chance as scientists streamed into studies that can be funded - agreeing with the establishment. My evidence is based upon my own fibro symptoms and history in evidence collection.

100% agree on the Correlation is not Causation statement. But deprecating "scientists guesses" was not what I was saying. They are not equivalent to one persons anecdotal research. However, research to become guidance or practice needs to be reviewed, replicated, picked a part and proved. The research from Goebbels and Andderson is promising but it does not as some have said mean that fibro is now an autoimmune condition.

Guesses can be substituted by 'hypothesis' which is the starting point for reseach. No reason why suffers should not have their own hypothesis and some of the great scientists used themselves as research material. Until a new and definite result is found I think we can all have our own guesses about our conditions. Anyone for demonic possession?

There is a progression of proof from guess, through hypothesis, to theory, to accepted fact. Even accepted fact is transient as we see our understanding of the universe through physics being tested and string theory and the like being adapted or ready for discarding.

"A theory explains a natural phenomenon that is validated through observation and experimentation. A hypothesis is an educated guess based on certain data that acts as a foundation for further investigation."

Anecdotal data and data points also progress along this same scale and (controlled) experiments firm up the guess through to it being accepted as a fact. But you need data points (people) to get there as well. A single human even without nature/nurture is a big giant variable hence we need some Harry Seldon* :) magic to get something that would be transferable to a large population.

Hi I’ve got Fibro and never had threadworm. No connection for me. 😊

I have never had them or heard of them being a link and not relevant to me, but saying that anything that stresses the body or adds extra stresses could add towards the possibility ?

thank you for all the reply’s and suggestions that there is no link

Interesting idea.

My fibro was caused by a road traffic accident, never heard of that.

Interesting... I had threadworm back when I was about 22-23 and this was the time that I also started having Endometriosis problems. Never had a re-occurance of them though and it took until I was mid 50's to get the Fibro diagnosis.

I have learned never to discount looking at the bigger picture though!

Thank you for your reply the first time I had them I realised they are so hard to get rid of and I became quite I’ll due to the stress of trying eventually after 3 months of showering every morning, damp dusting down everything daily, washing my bedding and towels after every use and medicating myself and my family weekly I finally got rid or did I ??? This it what makes me wonder if they have just being there in the background chipping away at my body’s defences and causing all the aches and pains that have progressively got worse over the years. If you read up on them for me a lot of the problems I have can actually be accounted to them so it will be something I ask my GP next time I see them.

I know had them for at least four years before finally going to the GP with mine and a course of tablets cleared them out within a couple of weeks or so. (I'd been so embarrassed all that time for nothing!!) I still don't know where I got them from, but I do know that I didn't feel "right" whilst I had them, but as it was the end of my teens early twenties I'd put it down to the move out of home, new house, relationships issues. However it was well before any of my major fibro symptoms started, but not before all my gynae problems which I think contributed to my fibro
