I haven’t been on a while thought I’d rant as I’ve been a bit low lately

I haven’t been on here for a while, I’ve been so busy and I remembered why I joined because it really does help me get through this! Knowing people understand.

I am suffering massively to keep on top of my work load. My joints are constantly swollen and I’m in so much pain. My pregablin isn’t working ;( I’ve been swollen now for nearly two weeks with no break. I’m so exhausted so I’m sleeping stupid hours and awake at stupid hours!

I’m due to go back rheumatology next week because they feel that me having swollen joints and my skin being flared so much, it’s like having sun burn all the time!!! It may be something else.

GP started me on Naproxen until go to rheumatology I thought yes this is the moment I’ve been waiting for, my joints hadn’t completely gone down but a lot compared to normally. But I feel like it’s come back with revenge because I’m probably in worse pain now then I was, although I don’t really know when I wasn’t last in a lot pain lol.

My hands are like balloons and I’ve had to have time off work because I physically couldn’t type (I’m in sooooo much pain writing this) but I need you guys to make me feel better lol, don’t get me wrong my paid very supportive but it’s not the same. I’ve gotta keep going because the last thing I want is my mental health to suffer.

I take codamol but I don’t like taking it regularly. I use ibuprofen gel a lot which does stop the throbbing but doesn’t help it completely go away.

Anywho that’s my rant! Sorry for the long post xx

Good morning Dash. I feel for you. Right now I have the same problem with my hands. They are so swollen and the pain is very very bad.

I hear what you say about hitting the key board to type its horrendous. This may be my last reply of the day lol

To be honest. When you talk about swollen joints thats not a fibro issue. That tends to be more an OA or RA type of problem both extremely painful.

Mine is OA related. My fingers look like swollen little sausage and the same with my toes agony.

I do hope you can get a firm diagnoses when you have seen the rheumatologist. Please let us know how you get on xx

Well the appointment hasn’t happened it got cancelled because of strikes!! He just said he is going to send me for x ray or my hands and wrists which the first doctor said in February but didn’t happen and when I chased there was no information on my record. When I asked about this to him he said “ when we’re so busy it’s easy to make mistakes” like that’s my fault?

Anywho we will wait and see if I get my X ray this time. He said that if my joints as shown as swollen on my x ray then it is likely I have rheumatoid arthritis. If there isn’t swelling in my joints then the swelling I’m experiencing is a bad case of fibromyalgia. He then went on to say it the medication is not working and I’ve explored all of them then the other option is physical exercise. I explained that just walking and doing daily tasks I could cry. His answer was we have many conversations with patients who have fibromyalgia who say the same thing but you just have too “push through” and it will get better. So yeah not the best it was different consultant to first one I seen and I’m not happy by that conversation.

He said if there’s swelling he will see me, if there isn’t there’s no need for him to see me!!!! Which is really annoying because the swelling is really evident!

Oh dear, thats so disappointing to say the least. Thank you for coming back to update your post. Well if you have the swelling he will have to see you. So hopefully you will get to see him f2f soon 🤞🤞

Hey dash sorry to hear you are going through it at the moment hopefully rheumatology see you soon. You description sounds like my nana she had rheumatoid arthritis rather then fibro I could be wrong but worth investigating when you do see rheumatology. Best of luck I hope you find the answers and support you need from them x

Sending best thoughts to you, keep going, we all know it will calm at some point and it’s the hanging in there that’s the hard part.

Have you tried some acupuncture? I know it’s a bit expensive all these extra therapies but I do find it helps my hands to calm down. And cold bowl of water I just sit with it on my lap at times. I know things don’t work for everyone but thought I’d say what I find helps sometimes.

Rant away, we all do that, yes, I agree ir does sound more like arthritis, I have rheumatoid arthritis, and that's exactly how I get with fibomyralgia on top. I really hope the rheumatologist sorts it for you, so you can start to feel relief xxx
