Fibro and COVID

Hi allI have suffered with fibro since 2012 after my right hip was replaced. It has varied a bit in how debilitating it has been for me. Unfortunately I was walloped by the Milanese variant of Covid when the whole Covid nightmare kicked off in Europe in earnest.

I thankfully did not end up in hospital but I was in bed for 5 days. On the last day it felt like kidneys were on fire. Finally I began, slowly to recover.

I have received all my Covid jabs but still walloped by Covid. Heaven knows how many times since.

OK, so the symptoms don't seem that bad but sadly my fibro symptoms have become more debilitating. I now suffer from strange mini seizures (not often) and some days weak as a kitten.

What are others experiences? Is Covid slowly but surely destroying us via our health weak points?

Thank you

Sarah (UK)

Poor you , unfortunately, I have read that it is common to be hit with COVID a number of times if you get symptoms that are mild even if you have the jabs , plus Fibro can make us more prone to get infections as many of us are weaker and can have lower immunity. From what you have described it sounds like you are experiencing Fibro flares caused by having to cope with COVID and that you may be experienced long COVID which is a combination of Chronic Fatigue and various symptoms that are caused by Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction ( the ANS is in charge of your involuntary body and brain functions like " fight or flight " , " rest and digest" , so it can effect digestion, pain levels , thinking skills , sleep , physical feelings of Anxiety with no apparent cause , temperature control and it can cause tremors , vertigo and dizziness).

No matter what the cause is , if you are getting neurological symptoms like seizures or tremors , increased pain and Fatigue you should arrange an appointment with the GP as soon as possible . Ask to speak to them in an urgent phone appointment first explaining about the mini seizure like episodes ( if you say you want an urgent call it just means it will happen sooner ). During the call explain the issues and remind them of the amount of COVID cases you have had. Ask to come in to be checked over and if they don't suggest them ask for some blood tests to help rule out things that might be related to you getting nutrient and electrolyte deficiencies which could have easily happened as your body got more run down dealing with your Fibro and illnesses even if you have a good diet.

Request a full blood count , kidney function ) electrolyte, Iron and Ferritin level , Vitamin B 12 , Folate and Vitamin D.

Very low levels or deficiency in many of these things can cause Fatigue, more pain and various Autonomic symptoms .

Ask for a copy of the results even if they say they are normal as if the results are borderline low it may be too low for you can you may need to increase your vitamin supplements.

If these tests come back well in normal range it is worth having your thyroid blood checks done and it would be advisable to ask about being referred to a Neurological Consultant just to rule out all possibilities during your face to face GP appointment.

Keep a diary of the amount of these episodes you are having , any new symptoms and any increase in Fibro symptoms to share with the GP and Consultant. They will find this helpful in working out what is happening and how frequent the issue is. It also helps for you to have in your appointment so you can remember what you needed to say , especially if you get hit by brain fog or anxiety in a doctor's appointment.

Hope things improve soon , Bee

Hello Sarah , I caught Covid last Summer, my husband brought it back from his brothers wedding, the last few months I am consistently catching virals 🙁i ve read thay Covid can weaken one’s immune system in general , having Cfs as well I really didn’t want too catch it but at some point most of us have . Have you caught up with your doctor about the mini seizures at all? xx

Hi Sarah I found no difference between covid and my fibro both have similar symptoms along with all those other labels and deficiencies out there!! As bee has said get you bloods checked your gp will say things are fine even if your vitamins are borderline. These borderline deficiencies are damaging to the central nervous system and immune system that is why we feel like so much is going on inside of us. My view is all those labels and deficiencies have strong links with certain forms of chemical poisoning. Take covid and all those other viruses we've had since 1986 nuclear disaster those so called scientists back in the day told us what to expect when all that rubbish was to fall back into our atmosphere and create these viruses. Only ten years after japan's nuclear plant emptied is guts into the ocean after the earthquake it had.China produced a virus to control it's own population after its citizens had been protesting for two years against the government. I strongly believe that these problems we suffer with have strong links with vitamin deficiencies that have gone un noticed for far too long I have just started using REVERSE LIFE MSM collagen for bone and joint strength and my nervous system would recommend it .

Thanks for the replies. Some very helpful and useful advice. I do forget and become confused quite easily. I have been in touch with my GP and various blood tests were done. They all came back as fine. No inflammation markers. B12 and vitamin D levels fine. I try my best to eat the minimum processed foods and take supplements occasionally. I desperately want to be well.

I fear this world has indeed been well and truly poisoned. I do the best I can. I grow fruit and veg using organic horticultural practises. I find bits of plastic in my compost! What a pickle

Hi shushkin I had the same response from my gp with bloods everything is fine but like bee said always ask to see your results mine were borderline but apparently fine . I was diagnosed with B9 folate deficiency 3 years ago and my daughter was 2 months ago. If your levels are below 500 I would strongly recommend supplements to prevent any further damage to the nervous system . Certain countries from what I have read automatically give B12 injections if the levels are below 500 ie Japan China and USA. The vitamins won't solve our problems but I've found it does help along with the good diet which I have always had . It's worth checking again as the long term affects of these deficiencies cause a lot of similar things to fibro and the other labels given . Good luck
