Hey everybody.

I have looked in so many places and cant find the answer so, is severe bloating part of fibromyalgia, i have been diagnosed with IBS ling before my fibromyalgia diagnosis but bloating like i bloat now has never happened. Has anybody else suffered from extreme bloating with fibromyalgia regardless of IBS. This bloating makes me feel disgusting!!

I appreciate any opinions or advice.

Lots of love and hugs.

I found following a lowfodmap diet helped me find which foods to avoid that can cause cause digestive issues.

hi yes i also have, mine was so painful put me in hospital at time had no clue why so had cameras investigations,

now on omeprozole, lacido and med cannot spell at moment 20mins before eating. Am also gluten free and dairy free now, i do not eat normal gluten free bread,

am trying gf wraps they have no yeast.

Am also on almond milk instead of cows milk and take cetririzine

have you tried the ibs forum on here, lots of helpful tips. I know exactly how you feel.

Keep a diary of everything that plays you up, try and omit it from your diet for a while, then try it again, if it still plays up, omit it, it’s a long road with ibs, finding out everything we need to know as to what our guts will accept. It’s no fun. Good luck.

yes! I have IBS also (think it’s part and parcel unfortunately, but have had IBS for longer). Doesn’t matter what or how much you eat, it still happens. Sticking to fodmap diet helps a little, but still happens. Some meds make it worse and exercise helps, as do indigestion remedies. Lots of water also. Little and often is the key for me, and trying not to eat after about 5pm. Good luck!

Hi, i started recently drinking cumin and it helps a bit during the say with both bloating and constipation. I use a half tea spoon od ground cumin and add a little bit of hot water for few minutes, then cool it a bit wirh tap water. I drink it in the morning sometines with lemon or honey as well, you could also drink it in the evening or any time of the day

I would not say severe bloating, I was a bit puffy, but they did put me on something that makes you lose fluid (Furosemide). After I take one, I spend the next two hours gong to the bathroom then the next 22 hours being thirsty. It is not pleasant; I will admit to giving myself what I can a dry day. One were I spend less time in the loo and don't feel like I have just crossed the Sahara Desert.

hi Holly,

I have fibromyalgia and IBS. I would say if bloating is a new symptom check with your GP just to be safe. I tend to blame Fibro and IBS for everything, so didn’t get my constipation checked out and it was Ovarian Cancer. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hi, I was diagnosed with ibs before fibromyalgia. Yes, I have extreme bloating and the most horrendous stomach camps. Ive found that bread is one of my biggest triggers. Like other comments here I have changed to lactose free milk, and gluten free bread. My GP told me to use buscopan over the counter for the cramps and imodium, both help a lot. During a bad flare up that last up to 2 weeks. I find porridge is my best friend and simple oatcakes. Its pretty miserable and inconvenient during a flare. Although its stress that triggers me, gluten free and other non fodmap foods do help. Worth doing an elimination diary. That said, xhexk with yoyr GP first it may not be ibs. Good luck x

I also had IBS before being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Just the other day, I had the worst bloating ever! I felt like I couldn't eat or drink anything. I was so uncomfortable. I hadn't had bloating this bad before. I don't know what caused it this time but I really don't look after myself, generally as I also suffer with depression.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with this. Do you think you need to see a doctor?

Best wishes

x

generally, bloating seems to be caused by food groups that one is intolerant of, most commonly gluten, dairy and all sugars and sugar substitutes, most carbohydrates as well, so the best way is to avoid these if at all possible, and then add them back one by one after a few months, and observe your reaction. Healing any gut problems caused by continued ingestion of foods that have caused dysfunction is probably a good idea, I found that taking L- Glutamine every day helped mine over about 6 months.
