Community-based fibro service improves patient care

does-the-NHS-work profile image

The NHS focus is moving their focus closer to community-based patient care for mental health in particular, here is a case study of what you may find in your community for fibro.

It would be interesting to learn of your experience of visiting these services?

This was a follow on from D and B Trust's "100 day challenge" focussing on FM in 2018.

An excellent example of the NHS working.

Here is a link to info about the Doncaster Fibromyalgia Therapy Group.

Hi there, may I ask are you from Doncaster? I have just finished a 5 month course with this group and would recommend them. There are waiting lists. So please be aware. Also check out this help group in whatever part of the country your in. They are spread around.

This is encouraging, can you share what helped you the most from the course?

It may not be for everyone. Due to the fact it is all down to the councilor you may get. I was lucky and had a great person to work with. I have had others in the past not so good.

Also it does depend on what you wish to work on and how long they think you need the to be on the course for.

Also all information dicussed is private to you and the therapist.

But I would recommend anyone to give them a go. They can also get you further help outside of the talking therapy if they think you need it and would like the help.

I myself am now on the waiting list to work with a trained therapist on PTSD not related to the talking therapy.

So nothing to lose really. You do need to keep an open mind and hope you get a therapist you feel comfortable with.

One more thing. The great thing for me personally was it can be done over the phone. 1 hour weekly sessions. I have a problem mixing with others out side my home.

So for others like me or with anxiety etc it is helpful been able to do the sessions via the phone.

Hope this helps others who may be thinking about giving it a go 👍

Hi, Great to hear it was worth attending and gave you a positive outcome.

therapy for PTSD, for me this rings a lot of bells, I think the time involved in talking therapy, I gradually get a clearer picture of the possible life event that may have lead to where I am now, (well that is a fact as life shapes us) its just we may not fully understand what past events are the ones we need to deal with.

Thanks for sharing your views, this is a plus for me.😊

I am originally from Doncaster but left many years ago.

Back when I was there a Donny support group would have consisted of "Pull yer bluddy socks up and gerron wiyit, yer soft lad!"

Haven't heard anything about it, but I'm in Wales, so we might not get the same things.
