My work place had a gas leak and we was evacuated outside in the freezing cold rain for 4 hours now I have a big fibromyalgia flare up. Work doesn’t understand.

What shall I do?

Hi there, not sure exactly what you mean by what you should do?

I am guessing you mean by being left out in the damp @ rain for 4 hours has triggered off a flare and your feeling really out of sorts☹️and not able to go into work , they would off been better to either send people home if possible or find the nearest cafe and buy everyone a hot drink , do you have a union ? or Human Resources that could help you ? Not sure what type of company you work for but 4 hours is a bit much to leave people standing outside, people without conditions would not be very happy in general on a wet day, hope you pick up soon x

Good morning. I hope you’re feeling better. My GP has given me a sickness note to give to my workplace. It states that I maybe unfit for work and states my medical problems including fibromyalgia and BPPV. Both of these conditions can cause me not to function. I sat down and explained it all to my boss as he didn’t understand what our conditions mean for us. He was much more understanding and is very supportive. I will not take advantage of the note but it stops me feeling stressed about being away from work. Maybe have a conversation with your GP and work. Hope this helps. Wishing you well x

4 hours is a long time to be outside, even without fibromyalgia

Fortunately, the circumstances mean it is unlikely to happen again, but do you have a line manager you can talk to and explain the impact it had on your health
