Hi. Feel a bit of a fraud as after reading on here, I am def not as bad as others..sorry...however I constantly have pain in my lower back, my legs and hips ache if i stand/sit for any length of time, I regularly have throbbing pain in my shins- even lying in bed in the middle of the night. I have a "buzzing" in my shoulder/neck and regular elbow/wrist pain. My knee (just one) is always aching. I

I still work as a teaching assistant 4 days a week, but am shattered after work- bed by 9pm at the latest. I am not on any painkillers from docs as yet. Over the counter meds do nothing. Can anyone recommend a 'starter med' for me to suggest to the doc pls? Thankyou in advance.

Thankyou very much.

Hi Kaytlou , Please don’t feel a fraud, every one is different as to how their pain affects every day.

Personally I don’t think paracetamol will touch your pain, sorry Hidden .

I think you will need something stronger, but also manageable for work, as to not make you drowsy, there is quite a lot out there, but sometimes they affect your day, I would have a chat with your doctor explain you need something that won’t affect your work.

I wish you luck.

Hi Ajay, do you find pregablin good , I’ve got restless legs too and they are driving me mad 😳

Natural remedy of vein vine by healthspan brilliant for restless leg syndrome I used to get it bad but gone now. Also groin thigh ect pain whilst walking is better too for taking it. It's good for the heart blood flow ect and I for one certainly wouldn't be without it now. I've had people say I look better and walk better now. Sure I still have my bad days but not so intense ect plus going plant based in my diet has definitely reduced inflammation around my body but has took a year for the good results I have now and perseverance as cannot tolerate strong pain killers of any kind bad side effects on me. Would also recommend looking up Dr Alan mandel on YouTube motivational .com he's a mind of information of everything to do with your body healing it naturally and has prevented many of drastic procedures over the years of people with numerous ailments he's brilliant with everything you can do yourself in such simple ways that don't cost a penny! Hope this all helps I've studied things to get this far had to do as beginning of lockdown was in agony with my appts with pain management clinic canceled and still haven't been seen to this day. I have my first appt on the 11th Nov but its virtual and not face to face so don't see how I'm going to manage that only having a mobile phone and no laptop ect. I do believe cutting out dairy and gluten has greatly reduced my pain inflammation ect and would never have believed that until I was so desperate and tried it for myself x

Hi, thank you. In same position as you re painkillers, also only a mobile phone. I'll look into your leads. Already plant based diet improved my IBS.

Brilliant and pleased to hear back from you. Yes it's been beneficial for my ibs too I have to say but without going into too much detail I have suffered that from childhood and in that way my body still is very stubborn so I still have to find myself having to make different tweaks to various things and probably what works for a few weeks suddenly stops so have to make a few adjustments! I think plant based is good for inflammatory factor all over the body and as I've read you have to start within and healing the gut to elieviate pain and inflammation over the body

That's a difficult one, doctor's probably won't like you going in with a list of tablets that you would like to try, however have you discussed your symptoms before with them? There are many types of medication that's suitable , but some will make you feel like a zombie, it might be worth mentioning that you have tried over the counter pain killers to the doctor to no avail,so at least your not coming away with the bog standard paracetamol, and then your covering yourself by not asking any awkward questions regarding stronger medications from your doctor, and then they will prescribe something to ease your pain,

(hopefully) and then maybe they'll try and find out the root cause of your pains, I doubt very much you are a fraud, and seeking help is the only solution, I wish you well, best wishes 😇

Hi and very sorry for what you going through. When I was reading, it was like reading my own story except I was doing it ( working) for another 2 years before I started to listen to my body. On the end my body gave up. That's me ( I have other health issues)and that's not to scare you.

Maybe you have to start take it a bit more easy - listen to your body. Talk to your GP ask for advice and I'm sure he/she can prescribe you something stronger than paracetamol if that's what's best for you.

All the best.

xx

Thankyou so much. I know exactly what you mean about trying to take it easy more. Unfortunately i can't afford to retire/go more p/t yet...but im planning to in around 4 yrs when i reach 55. 🤞 Some days are worse than others, but i realise that I'm still able to work, whereas others are not. Thankyou for your reply. It is much appreciated.

I understand then speak to your GP about some better pain relief. Just and idea - when you on holiday that's when you start to take them so you use to them by the time you going back to work. You will be ready for battle again 🙂.

its difficult as i know so well, but i do think Solpadeine Max which is an over the counter med,can be good, but i also bought pain patches on Amazon, they are not as strong as the ones on prescription but do work with no side effects.

Hello,

I think everyone is different and your dr would consider any factors you might have that could make side effects worse.

For me, I was given naproxen which really helps. I don't have any liver problems which is one reason why it was chosen. They don't want me on anything else because I'm quite young and don't want me having to deal with common side effects of other medication. They also referred me to a pain clinic and they've given me advice and prescription cream that can help pain.

Personally I would ask the dr what medication they'd consider giving you and what common side effects are so you can discuss together what is best for you. Sometimes it is trial and error.

I hope you find something that helps.

Hi, Kaytlou. Your pain from the lower back and down could be something a chiropractor, or acupressure/acupuncture could help. Or an orthopedic surgeon. If you have a nerve in your back that is being pinched, it could radiate all the way down. And it could be something that might require surgery. Knees and hips will try to compensate for the pain making them hurt more. And your neck could have a pinched nerve sending signals to your shoulders and down to your hands.

Of course I have Fibromyalgia and that could be the cause as well. It's hard to tell until you see a doctor who understands and listens to you. And perhaps a doctor with a different view of treatment plan. A second opinion for instance or seek help from a homeopath. It took a little time to get my GP to diagnose Fibro. And then it took more time to get medications that help with the symptoms. As I have aged, the medications aren't blocking out all of the pain anymore. So I do take acetaminaphen (paracetamol) to boost the effectiveness of my pain meds.

Keeping talking until you get help. You shouldn't have to suffer through life. I've had Fibro for about 24 years. And I still get doctors who don't believe in Fibro or chronic fatigue syndrome. They say it's the food you eat, the way you sit, the way you walk, the lack of exercise, and so on. But I was 26 when this started. I was in much better shape and ate better too. But pain slowed me down and made me lethargic. Then the pain increased and the cycle repeats.

Hang in there, Kaytlou. Prayers, hugs, love and light.

Thankyou so much for ur reply. It is awful, the cold def makes it worse. People just dont get it at all. I tend to keep it to myself as i dont want to sound like im complaining all the time. 🤷‍♀️ I can still work, but am so tired at the end of the day- no way could i go to the gym etc like colleagues do. Its good to know there are others around who are feeling the same! Keep well. ❤

Tbh, no. I dont need help with dressing, but daily tasks are hard work sometimes. The tiredness is madness. Im ready for bed as soon as ive got up! No way could i be bothered to go swimming/gym etc. Just doing my normal day to day jobs is enough. Fibro mates now. 😊

Hi KatylouOf course we all need to find out own way through, and I never intend to detract from any other suggestions, but I would strongly suggest trying as many alternatives as possible before turning to pain meds. They're an essential for many to keep up with life but you've got so far without them it seems a shame to let them slip into your daily routine.

I'd recommend acupuncture, any form of meditation or mindfulness, any number of natural remedies, or anything that you believe might work for you irrespective of opinions. Pain is personal, soothing it should be equally unique to you. painkillers are not always the friend you hope they will be.
