Just been diagnosed today. I also have had multiple spinal fusions/surgeries and an arthritic spine. Cannot bear to have another “label”. How do you all manage working? Are employers kind during flare-ups? Thank you

Hi and welcome. I’m so sorry to hear about your health issues. You’ve certainly had a rough time. I am retired now but I found employers to be sympathetic as long as I could meet demands somehow. There’s no way I could do a day’s work now as I need frequent rests throughout the day! Try not to worry about being labelled. Having a diagnosis opens up opportunities to learn your own ways of managing your condition. I say ‘your’ deliberately as you will have to find the best way for you. People give some really good advice and support on here so you can find what works for you. Have you tried contacting “Access to Work “? They will work with you and your employer to modify your work needs and sugest any equipment helpful to your needs. Your employer has some responsibility under the DDA act to make work accessible where possible. Hope you find a way forward x

Thank you. So far they’ve been fantastic but I’m relatively new in post (school nurse) and obviously worrying about not meeting my role requirements. Hope you have a good day, Wx
