It’s funny you should mention this as I have just found a really comfy bra after years of searching. It does have hook and eye fastening but it has wide straps and is sooo comfortable. It’s a cotton, non-wired bra from Miss Mary of Sweden. Mine is called ‘cotton dot’ I think. I love it!

In terms of everyday bras without hook and eye fastening, I wear a Belvia pull on bra at home. Super comfy but not much support. I hope you find what you’re looking for x

There are lots of bras without fastenings and with wider straps available. I bought some Sloggi brand bras last year when I had a pacemaker implanted, very light and comfortable.

Hi, so sorry to hear your suffering so much at the moment. It depends on how much support you need. Daft as it sounds I found a front fastening mastectomy bra the most comfortable, that and letting no bra if I'm not going out lol. If you're a bit less endowed sports bras, pull on and stretch but covers your dignity. I got the mastectomy bra on eBay after a tip from a friend who needed it for real, they don't come with the prosthetic as the clinic measures them for ladies who need to fill it.Have to say from a medical point of view we should never start wearing bras as the muscle structure is far better if we never start wearing one, Danish have had that sussed for generations, bit late for us older ladies but good advice for any teens out there. A vest to cover dignity is far healthier.

Hugs and best wishes, Jan xx

Hi I was just interested on your comment re not wearing a bra . I was always led to believe you needed a bra for support . What’s the story on the Danish way ???

The latest research for breast health and structure studies reports that the muscle structure is being relaxed by the use of restrictive bra structure and it is not healthy to confine the growing tissue structure in a bra. There is some evidence to show costochondritis pain (sharp pain across the chest bone) which can occur as it's own condition or as part of fibromyalgia, it significantly aggravated by restrictions of a bra. It is healthier to exercise and strengthen the chest muscle structure in the youth growing years then to rely on a restrictive false support. If you don't keep up the exercise you will get saggy boobs, but less chance of damaged structure, and let's be honest you can wear a bra for your whole adult life and have boob drop anyway.

I too have lived in Denmark and in Africa and there are the comparison between those who have worn bras and those who don't have a little difference to droop, however a less percentage of gland damage or tissue damage in the bra free group.

There is no proven data currently about the occurance of breast cancer ladies, so whatever your choice please examine yourself once a month and report any changes to your doctor immediately, don't wait a few months to see if it goes away! Better to be sure than sorry.

Like I said in my first post, mastectomy bras are designed to be supportive but gentle on sore, painful operation site as it heals so should be more comfortable if you choose to wear one. Hugs x

I honestly don't find that to be true. I have lived in Denmark for 27 years and the ladies that did that in the 70s ,80s, 90s are now finding themselves with very sagging breasts. I have seen young ladies in their late 20s and early 30s with this too. I have friends that have regretted doing so. It is a personal choice but I have advised my teenager against it. Breasts are mostly fat and breast tissue and yes you can do exercises to improve tone, but you cannot train them to stay perky . A huge part of it is hormonal too. Women in tribal areas in Africa have been braless for centuries and this does not keep them perky as you can see on various documentarys. I find the wired bras hurt the most and the sports ones to be a prefered choice.

I sympathise. I have costochondritis as well as fibro and apart from a few hours havent been able to wear a bra now for 11 years. Ice fried every type, been measured etc but within an hour they are literally torn off as I am so much pain. The only fortunate thing is I am small bosomed but now hate hot summers as I need to wear a thinner top and end up wearing of dark colours as it makes it less noticeable but would prefer to be wearing bright summer colours.

I also have a mastectomy so this is a big issue. The most comfortable ones I have found are Coobie brand, quite resonabally priced also. They have regular and large sizes. If you need a larger one look for the sleep bras. Of course the moment I get home it comes off. I have also seen special "sleep bras", do an internet search.

I find the pull-on comfort bras good. They don't give you the shape of the ones you have to hook up but it's a natural look.

I buy the nursing two pack bras from m&s. They're quite expensive and do have fasteners but they're the only ones that fit me without causing discomfort. I'm 58 and glad these have very soft padding inside each side to make me look a little more perky than saggy:)

Hi, I know exactly how you feel, I've found that the soft slightly padded bralets from Primark are really comfortable. I think they were around £6-£8, (can't recall exact price) They are really soft, no wires, clips and the bottom band does not dig in. Hope this helps, take care.

Not to be too personal, but how chesty are you? If you are not too chesty, you may consider wearing a tank top that has the built in padding in the chest then no bra needed. I relay on these (and soft flexible sports bras) as much as possible.

I find Sports bras comfortable, no bones, hooks, plastic strapping that dig in the shoulder.

I have been wearing sports bras for years and they do a good job

Hi I have tried Boody an Australian company who make the greatest pants and do a bra with wide straps too. Otherwise M and S sports bra.

All the best,

I have big boobs and the most comfortable bras I have ever used are Calvin Klein. They have all sorts of styles but I find the style with the fuller cup and the widest straps are the most comfortable.
