It’s a nightmare tbh, but getting retired on ill health will help enormously..get lots of help and lots of medical evidence. FUNCTIONALITY is the key word.

Hellish, it is a bit like scuba diving to feed sharks. Alone the advisor, assessor sharks will eat you alive and spit our your bits while ignoring your cries for help. You need help, especially if you are someone already disabled by the F-word, the sharks will take advantage of that and discard you as fish feed.

So get as much backup as you can, do as much as can to ensure your safety and as a final fish based piece of advice.

Hammer heads might look stupid but they have the same smile as a Great White and bite just the same.

you are right, i struggled 7 years to be diagnosed and when i apply for PIP they told me they don't believei can't move around or have pain as i described

I had a good experience I found the process easier than expected with my RA diagnosis and OA and a telephone assessment too. I sent the paperwork I had at home and asked GP for a list of treatments and appointments etc. My main thing was to write about the worst days and using radiators to lift me off loo or crawling upstairs when struggling or loss of identity as seeing friends less too. Good luck 🤞

Many thanks for your advice and your right the bad days are awful my hubby has to help me up so I shall be including that xx

Hi WWFboys22, yes it can be a very daunting experience, although my friend who has different health conditions to me have had good experiences. I do believe it is down to the person that reads your form and then if you have a face to face then also, although it is not supposed to work like that. I normally end up at tribunals. Gather as much evidence as possible, that will be a big help if you end up at tribunal. I would seek help in filling the form in to from cab or similar in your area.

Many thanks no should defo not be like that at all a good sound knowledge of the condition is vitally important and shouldn’t be someone’s opinion but I guess that the system xx many thanks for your advise I doubt I’ll get it but I shall certainly try xx

Most definitely. I've been seen by a physiotherapist which isn't very good when you may have mental health conditions also. A paramedic which isn't qualified for long term conditions and a nurse who is probably trained in mental or physical health. Not many assignment centres have doctors anymore. I hope you get someone knowledgeable, but do keep fighting if you don't. You will get a fair hearing in the end x.

Take a look at my previous post here healthunlocked.com/fibromya.... that tells you all about PIP and includes links to Guides that will help you present your claim to best effect.

Deeb1764 profile image

I got a response at 7 weeks they do have to reply one way or the other but if anxious give them a call to check they have received your info as I know of at least 2 people the pack had not been received.

Having sent your application form off to DWP have you phoned them to make sure they have your application form on the system. Once you have been assured they have it you will have to wait until you are invited to take a pho assessment or attend a face to face assessment. My waiting for a phone assessment was 3 months then another 22 weeks for the official notification letter. But being use to the system I requested a copy of my assessment report a week or so after my assessment. On seeing what my award was going to be the same as before I started preparing for an MR .

It took 12 months from start to finish before my husband got his pups 12 weeks for me but mine is due for renewal so having to fill in renewal form at mo just make sure you basis it’s on worst day and repeat yourself throughout

Farmerboy in reply to justmai

The assessment is not based on your worst day. You have to be able to do, manage the PIP descriptors safely, repeatedly and in a timely manner for 50% of your daily life. If your stating that when it’s really bad expect to be asked how often is that. The HP will draw their own conclusions to your answers and probe more into your difficulties in doing the activities, descriptors.

justmai profile image
justmai in reply to Farmerboy

I was always told to base it on your worst days by those that worked for help the aged and citizens advice when I originally filled in my form because activities you can or cannot do in your worst day could be different from what you can do in average day.I’m not the only one that mentions basing it on your worst days. My worst days are 90% of the time anyway

but I’ve had dla and then pips for 10 plus years all I have to dois complete the renewal form once in a while.

Farmerboy profile image
Farmerboy in reply to justmai

Well your reply says it all, it looks like your conditions are so bad that it’s a case of the DWP checking that there is no improvements since your last renewal. Good luck and thank you for replying.

You could be eligible for ESA, or the Universal Credit equivalent, Council Tax Reduction on grounds of low income, housing benefits if you are a renter and so on. You will find all the detail on the Rugby Fibromyalgia Support Group website. I can’t post a link as Admin delete them but Google it and should be able to find the site.

Visit the entitled to website to look at what benefits you may be entitled to. If you have lost your job you would probably be entitled to ESA contributions based which should give you some breathing space.

Yes good advice about claiming benefits and I have said the same to you.

There are 2 things which are essential for PIP. One is not only to describe your worst day but make sure they know it is bad more often than not. If they say can you do this or that and you can, don't just say yes as you will get no points. The criteria is if you can do it in a timely and safe manner. So if you can't you must tell them and how it affects you. Ie can you go shopping? Say yes but only for half an hour and I am in pain for 2 hours afterwards.

The 2nd thing is although they say they will get written confirmation themselves don't rely on them to do it as it will depend on how busy they are. Make sure you get all the evidence yourself and take it with you to the interview.

Good luck.

I get universal tax credits but due to panic attacks and anxiety mental health problems they do telephone interviews since 2017 then was handing in sick lines for over a year then got a telephone one day to go for medical assessment the next day so I went didn’t know what was going on but went I have been in limbo since still get phone calls now and then councillor I went to see about mental healthcare he advised me to see my doctor and to be checked for fibromyalgia was turned away twice then social health care worker sent a letter to the doctors made appointment the doctor said yes it is probably is that went to a local fibromyalgia monthly meeting but all that was their had had it confirm be physo neurologist three day ago phone doctors and told them that nothing is improving I am now shuffling around my house and it is one level 6-7 years know so been in touch with welfare rights to help me with pip as medical assortment officer said she would be righting to my g p that was 2018 but I have been struggling with mental health

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply to debwhit

You need to put in a claim for Universal Credit. You need to claim the sickness element so you will need a sick note from your doctor.

For details of this look at gov.UK.

Hi,

I found benefitsandwork.co.uk/ enormously helpful when I was applying.

Keep in mind ''regularly/repeatedly/to an acceptable standard'' when you are thinking about what you are capable of doing, i.e you can get dressed, but can you do it ''regularly/repeatedly/regularly''?

Supply as much evidence as you can (photocopies) and remember to keep a copy of your application too, because it's invaluable as a reminder for your assessment.

Most assessments are done over the phone at the moment, which I found easier than I would have found an assessment in person.

The best advice I could give you when claiming PIP is to never use the word SOMETIMES its either you can or you can't but never SOMETIMES that will stop your claim straight away as they can be pretty ruthless if you go for an interview with them over your claim its you either can or can't do certain things. Wishing you the best of luck

I agree with what most people are saying, 3 years ago I had to take them to a tribunal I did win. But it was not a nice experience. Are you aware that if you have given up work due to illness, and this in working age you can claim ESP which I believe stands for employment support payment. I found that a better experience than PIP. You can claim both at the same time.

Hi, I had a good experience claming PIP two years ago filled out the form with the help of CAB had face 2 face assessment & got awarded standard with no problems.

You always hear the horror stories but it isn't always like that. I had a face to face assessment with a lovely assessor. She listened to me carefully and wrote an accurate report. I was asked to do a couple of physical movements - I explained I couldn't do them, that was fine. I ended up receiving enhanced rate for both components with a 10 year review. I know I was fortunate but I wanted to let you know it's not always bad! Filling in the form correctly is essential. There are online guides on how to answer the questions properly. Good luck, I hope you receive the award you deserve
