Advice on pain really needs to come from your doctors who have physically examined you. Generally speaking, RA patients are given biologics to control the autoimmune aspect of the disease which in turn decrease RA pain and inflammation. Gabapentin does not help with either but can be effective with pain from disease such as fibrmyalgia. However the dose required to control pain is usually not a low dose. Anyways, please discuss with your rheumatologist who actually knows a lot about fibromylagia too (even though they do not treat it). I hope your symptoms are mild enough that you do not need to worry about medications!

Hi Muppet, after an appointment with my rheumatologist I was advised to try duloxetine. Unfortunately it did not suit me so I am now on a medium dose of pregablin. It has certainly helped with fibro pain. I'm having the worst flare up since starting this dose and its certainly not as unbearable as pre pregablin. Sorry can't advice on rheumatoid arthritis as I suffer from osteo.

I hope your doctor can help

Maybe ask doc for pain relief i take codeine and duloxotine codeine really takes edge off for me unfortunately nothing takes pain away but it calms down that agresive wasp in my head type of pain.....

Unfortunately it's not one med fits all. Most people have to try lots of different medication and doses until they find the best for them. Only your GP or other medical professional can advise.

What medication helps one person will not necessarily work for another.

You say you are on a low dose of gabapentin - it may be that you require a higher dose. Pregabalin is a similar drug, which helps some people when gabapentin doesn't . Amitriptyline and duloxetine are another 2 medications commonly used for treatment of fibro.

Tramadol and paracetamol can help with pain.

Hi, I have methotrexate for RA and amitriptyline for fibromyalgia plus Tramadol for flare up of RA- it doesn’t help with fibro pain and paracetamol daily. It’s awful when you’re in pain and can’t get any relief. Hot baths with magnesium and a wheat sack may help. Hope you get some relief x
