Hi, my mum has recently been admitted to hospital with chest pain and shortness of breath, they thought she may be having a heart attack but having further test her arteries are all clear and they have put it down to either stress or her fibromyalgia
saying this can cause chest pain, is this a common thing I'm concerned?

Hi, glad it wasn't a heart attack. It sounds like she may have costochondritis (inflammation of rib cage muscles). This is a common comorbid condition in people with fibromyalgia and the pain can be very severe and affect any area of the chest/ribs
I must admit that when I first got chest pains and rib tenderness, I thought it could be heart problems...got checked out and I was relieved it was only Fibro!!! I found warmth helped me and going without a bra......it lasted several days and I found I couldn't take a deepish breath without it pulling me up short with pain. It will go but I am glad you had her checked out as it isn't always fibro....Take Care Trikki
I have very similar symptoms caused by costochondritis which I have only developed since having fibro in fact it was that that first sent me to the doctor. When my friend who was otherwise healthy had it theh thought she was having a heart attack. It is quite frightening u till you know what it is. Hooe she is feeling better now.x
Thank you for posting this and for the replies received. Yesterday I had chest pains but they waivered but ribs were sore as well. Felling better today so think mine was stressed based. I'm glad your mum is ok xx
Hello there, glad to hear the tests came back okay, I see members are talking about costochondritis which seems to be a symptoms some fibro sufferers have, glad you are keeping an eye on her, I’m sure she values this , take care of yourself also .
